Re: "Kids today"

Not so much, but at 37 I'm one of the younger people in my division. I don't think the piece is saying millennials suck at all, it's saying that by pandering to these over-the-top expressions of PC we are creating a dangerous precedent as a society. I mean, seriously, finding Things Fall Apart to be...

Re: "Kids today"

This new climate is slowly being institutionalized, and is affecting what can be said in the classroom, even as a basis for discussion. During the 2014–15 school year, for instance, the deans and department chairs at the 10 University of California system schools were presented by administrators at...

Re: "Kids today"

We seem to see 'articles' like this every generation saying how the next generation is a bunch of babies that don't know what hard work is and they are sheltered. I think it goes back thousands of years, honestly. I don't know, I think it's different when you have the heads of various schools modif...

Re: "Kids today"

Did you read the whole thing? There's a world of difference between a professor trying to instruct on rape law and Trump. Totally different context. What industry are you in? Most of the examples cited in the article seem to be law or humanities, although there's one incident in accounting that is j...

Re: "Kids today"

Blast from the past bump . . . http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/09/the-coddling-of-the-american-mind/399356/ There’s a saying common in education circles: Don’t teach students what to think; teach them how to think. The idea goes back at least as far as Socrates. Today, what we call ...

Re: Poll: Bernie Sanders would beat Donald Trump

Seriously? He was giving her gifts, attention, etc. Even if he were single the relationship would not have been professionally acceptable. At the end of the day it was an older guy in a position of authority and power taking advantage of a younger, less mature, and less experienced woman. Anyway, we...

Re: Poll: Bernie Sanders would beat Donald Trump

I have read and watched Monica's take on the whole thing and sexual harassment wasn't part of it. She wasn't threatened in any way by Bill which is what sexual harassment means to me. Go down on me or lose your job. That's sexual harassment. It was a mutual consent, which is not sexual harassment. ...

Re: Poll: Bernie Sanders would beat Donald Trump

I'm not a big follower of Euro politics, but is it common for European pols to have affairs with interns or people they can impress with their position, or do they sleep around in the same class? I would guess it's the latter, and most likely what she's trying to say. Lewinsky in particular was a di...

She has basically aided and abetted his misogynistic treatment of multiple women. There are plenty of feminists who have come out against her for those reasons.

Re: 1st GOP Debate

Several reasons. Unlike Obama, Jeb(!), and yes, Hillary, Sanders is not beholden to Wall Street. Will he want to jack up capital gains taxes? Maybe, and I'm okay with it. He also wants to break up the too-big-too-fail banks. He's opposed to stuff like the TPP, which seems with the research I've done...

Surgery Center of Oklahoma seems to be doing just fine and they're significantly cheaper than most others. I'd be interested to see what their margin is.

Re: 1st GOP Debate

Who would you vote for from the other side of the aisle? I'm kind of intrigued by Bernie Sanders, actually. If it's Bush*-Sanders I may have to go for Bernie. * or Huckabee, or Kasich, or Christie . . . . One of them that caught my attention briefly was I believe Huckabee, who said he wanted to uni...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

Maybe, maybe not. It would lower the cost of entry into the business and would be an incentive for new competition. It's not a panacea but it's a start. I think Denninger's suggestions are good ones as well. How about a law requiring hospitals to post pricing and charge all patients the same price r...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

Government regulation creates a lot of the complexity that Atlantic article decries. And prices could be lower without cost controls. A nationwide insurance company has to offer 50 different policies. In many of those states there are de facto monopolies. Eliminate the state-line barrier to purchasi...

SHOCKER! The reincarnation of JFK could be running on the GOP ticket and most of the people on this message board wouldn't vote for him because he was a Republican.

Re: 1st GOP Debate

Assad did agree to get rid of all his WMD and we lost zero troops in Syria. Cyber attacks will keep coming no matter what and no matter who is President. They say we need to shut the NSA down because they are trampling on our freedoms and snooping, but at the same time they aren't doing enough and ...

BTW, I'm not complaining, I think it was a good thing. It will train them for when the Candy Crowleys of the world start dog-piling.
