Re: 1st GOP Debate

Was more responding to your assertion that there were no hardballs rather than whether they answered those questions. The politicians obviously fell back into talking points; Trump seemed to answer honestly. That seems to be one of the things people like about him. More on the tone/tenor of the ques...

Re: 1st GOP Debate

She honestly wasn't on my radar but she had a great debate last night, and offered this today:

Some actual policy to chew on.

Re: 1st GOP Debate

First question Carson got?

First question Trump got?

The abortion question for Walker.

Off the top of my head.

Re: 1st GOP Debate

It's a bit hyperbolic but certainly was more antagonistic than, oh, Candy Crowley and Obama teaming up against Romney. As far as the lack of content, well, that's to be expected in a 10-person debate. For a lot of these candidates, it was their first exposure to the public at large. Going forward sp...

Re: 1st GOP Debate

Watched TDS instead. I'm not a Republican & most of these candidates are out of touch with reality imho anyway. http://money.cnn.com/2015/08/07/media/gop-debate-fox-news-ratings/index.html These debates would mean so much more if they weren't rigged. There are never any hard questions and nobod...

1st GOP Debate

My initial stack ranking: Maybe: Carson (shaky start, noticeably nervous, but knocked it out of the park at the end) Cruz (never said uh, even without a teleprompter) Walker (strangely sounds like Sam Rockwell) Mixed: Trump Rubio (moving up from meh) Rand (work on the facial expressions) Meh: Kasich...

Re: Poll: Bernie Sanders would beat Donald Trump

I guess the question would be how hard would he really push for any of those things. He wasn't exactly a supply-sider when he was the Governor of Florida, so I doubt he would cut spending. Taxes? Maybe, I don't know. I don't see taxes as being as big an issue as over-regulation and spending. On the ...

Re: Suns News: The Offseason (2015)

I love this quote: "A lot of teams, you read the media reports and you can kind of tell what they’re doing or what they want to do," McDonough said. "I’ve got a few people telling me, ‘We have no idea what you guys are doing.’ I don’t know if that’s a compliment or not, but we do val...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

Which is normal, deflation is good and to be expected as technologies mature. I don't know if you can lay it all on caregivers and drugs, though. In the pregnancy example there is much less care given now than in the past, yet the cost has outpaced inflation by 10 times? People used to be able to ge...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

The problem is actually the lack of capitalism. The price has been driven up by effective monopolies and a failure to enforce existing laws on the industry.

Yeup.

Samsung S5 here. It sucks. I'd almost rather have my Blackberry back, at least it had a hard button keyboard.

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

Yes, but as you say, it's a sunk cost. My wife worked for an orthopedic office that put in an MRI about 9 years ago, the same machine is still there. Sure, there are ongoing costs but at a certain point it's a depreciating asset. Average cost for an MRI, as best I can tell, is $2600. Figuring 10 a d...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

"Eliminating insurance completely sounds kind of radical." I think the thinking there is that market pressure would push pricing down. The Surgery Center of Oklahoma is a good example. Most of their business is cash, and they give you the price ahead of time. There's no reason in a sane wo...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

Honestly, unless the GOP field decides to grow a pair, I think Sanders is the next President unless Biden decides to run. Obama has done a lot of things I disagree with, but cutting the deficit by two-thirds, and being the lowest spending President since Eisenhower, I will say has me exceptionally p...

Re: Why does the Republican party exist?

Trump vs. Sanders. As far as Jeb v. Clinton, meh, they're both lame. There's some slight differences in position but I don't feel they'd govern all that differently. He's more progressive than HW and W IMO. http://theweek.com/speedreads/454351/wall-street-love-hillary-clinton-vs-jeb-bush-2016 Jeb ke...

I thought this was a good piece. Such classes used to be common, not sure if they are as much now. The ROTC classes I had in high school did have some marksmanship and safety classes.
