Around the League: September
Re: Around the League: September
I agree that they probably have enough young guys, but good draft picks are still assets that they could use to upgrade later if needed. They need to figure out what they have, who can be a part of their long-term future, and so on. For example, is Bennett going to be a capable NBA player? Is Rubio going to stay there and sign a reasonable deal, or will he bolt / ask for the max? Is Wiggins good, or is he great? Will Thad Young stick around and grow with the young team, or is he a one-year rental? Etc.

I guess Kevin Durant and I have something in common.
Re: Around the League: September
How is that possible? I can palm a regulation size ball easily.
Re: Around the League: September
He's pretty skinny so maybe he doesn't have enough grip strength.
Re: Around the League: September
I wonder if we're talking about the difference in palming a ball outside of a game versus palming it in a game situation like when dunking a basketball.

Re: Around the League: September
kobe bryant can't either... a lot of these guys' hands aren't that big. when they say can't i think it means that they can't do it consistently for that to be a reliable weapon, vs. guys who can literally pick a ball out of the air (not intended for them) with one hand, like sabonis did that one year when the blazers were battling the kobe/shaq lakers in game 7 of the western conference finals. but i digress. i don't think this means that these guys cannot grab the ball if conditions were right.
Re: Around the League: September
i think most people who go up with one hand to dunk the ball don't necessarily need to palm it. but some players who have enough of a grip on the ball with one hand, at any angle, do use it as an added advantage in keeping the ball away from the defenders.Superbone wrote:I wonder if we're talking about the difference in palming a ball outside of a game versus palming it in a game situation like when dunking a basketball.

Re: Around the League: September
Yeah, but nothing comes close to the way Jordan used to grab it. That impressed me more than his hoops, for instance.
Re: Around the League: September
Supposedly Jordan can't palm a ball now because of torn ligaments from all the times he'd jammed and dislocated his fingers.

Did you watch the Connie Hawkins clip? He used to waive it around like it was a tennis ball.Ring_Wanted wrote:Yeah, but nothing comes close to the way Jordan used to grab it. That impressed me more than his hoops, for instance.

Hehe, yeah. Dr J too. Today it's Rondo and Kawhi. Elton Brand, from the recent past, and obviously Shaq.Superbone wrote:Did you watch the Connie Hawkins clip? Re: Around the League: September
nice photo shel... but this is what i mean. most of these players who are said to not be able to palm the ball, their hands are likely bigger than mine and i can palm it on a good day... the reason i say that kobe bryant can't palm isn't actually out of observation. i was at a photoshoot for the chinese version of slam magazine, who hired a photographer that follows kobe around a lot... the photographer told me not to ask kobe to do any poses where he has to palm the ball because he couldn't. it may have been due to some injury he had at the time, but my general impression from that conversation was that this was a taboo request with kobe.ShelC wrote:[ Image ]

Re: Around the League: September
I think NBA Jam had exactly 2 players per team and NBA Jam TE introduced a third.
Several great players who were in the league at the time (most notably Michael Jordan) were not featured in NBA Jam, either because they didn't want their likeness used in the game or because they had some kind of licensing deal with some other video game company like EA.
