Not even a big deal that they traded for him. It's them extending him without him playing a single game in a Suns uniform.ShelC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:13 pmWas always a red flag to me that good playoff teams - Sixers, Clippers, Nets - all had him, played him and then moved him after a season despite being a young player on a rookie deal. I still understand the Suns logic in trading for him but they missed and missed big time. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:47 pmThe thing is this - Shamet has been almost exctly the same player he was everywhere else that he has since coming here. He's no worse than he was in Philadelphia, Los Angeles or Brooklyn. The Suns just just saw the one thing he could do fairly well (shoot open jumpers) and they figured he's be better because they would get him more of those open looks here. Well, we all see how that woked out for them.AmareIsGod wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:41 pmI said this the minute he was signed. TF were they thinking?

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

The problem is that when they traded for him they thought they had filled a hole in the backcourt and they didn't do anything else, and he's not the answer.

He was solid for a half other than letting Adams get every offensive rebound and put back.

If there's any truth to that I would translate that to teammates are probably sick of Ayton and his lack of production. They may be sick of Chris Paul in some way also but these are just my thoughts based on Barkleys take.

Yea the wheels came off in the 3rd. I very much disagree with Monty's lack of trust/use of DWJ. Seems he'd rather lose with guys he likes and who play within the system than go with a guy who can provide a spark and turn a game around. Under normal circumstances, I'm fine with that but these are not normal circumstances. Going with Saben Lee/Shamet over DWJ isn't a good look IMO.

I think it’s fine to play Lee right now on his 10-day…he’s been decent too

I good with playing Lee too, but I think you can find time for Lee and DWJ to be on the court together. Shamet, even by his own admission, hasn't been playing well, so I think you have to give at least a look at a guy like DWJ who can get hot and single-handily keep you in a game sometimes.
I think the biggest thing that Lee is showing is that we really, really, need a traditional PG to handle the ball and make some decisions initiating the offense. The fact that we went so long without one after all the injuries is ridiculous.

Ya I’m not a big Shamet guy either, but he is better than DWJ. DWJ is real bad at defense…he does come with the ability to explode and carry the offense. I just think Monty chooses the more reliable Shamet who plays within the offense and doesn’t make mistakes on defense…I can’t really fault that even if I’d probably do it differently
Re: Game Day: Suns (21-23) @ Grizzlies (29-13), Mon 1/16/23
Maybe a little inclusion of DWJ in the 2nd half of the game might have helped.

Yeah, Shamet is more reliable, more reliable at fucking sucking. Fuck him. DWJ is literally the better player, even with all his faults. I wonder how much of the fact that he’s only allowed to be in 50 games plays into sitting him tho. It is what is.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 12:48 pmYa I’m not a big Shamet guy either, but he is better than DWJ. Shamet sucks really sucks, easily one of my least favorite Suns.
Re: Game Day: Suns (21-23) @ Grizzlies (29-13), Mon 1/16/23
Haha, I think we’re getting a little carried away. I don’t love Shamet but statistically speaking he’s quite a bit ahead of DWJ. Like DWJ is historically inefficient. Shamet is basically a replacement level player by advanced stats, DWJ is well below. I think we get blinded by the good games, because DWJ has had a few brilliant ones, but he’s usually pretty bad.
That being said, I think we know what Shamet is and It’s not a playoff rotation guy…I’d be all for throwing DWJ out there ahead of Shamet to see if he can find some level of consistency.

The numbers are lying. Shamet is below average, at best, at everything. DWJ is a 3 level NBA scorer, which we absolutely need right now. I'd give up some defense for his ability to get hot and put pressure on opposing defenses.

Both Shamet and DWJ are frustratingly inconsistent. Shamet will have five bad games in a row, then he'll somehow come in and give us 18-20 points. That's nice when it happens, but on a given night you can't count on him to give you anything. DWJ also has some really bad games between his microwave performances. He can really hurt the team, much moreso than Shamet IMO since DWJ will just run up and chuck a bad shot and waste an entire possession. Shamet sometimes takes bad shots or has poor shooting nights, but most of the shots he takes are in the flow of the offense. Shamet is also a much better defender than DWJ; he's no Lu Dort but he does a passable job, while DWJ is actively bad on defense and undersized.
I think overall I'd rather have Shamet at DWJ's salary than DWJ, but they're both marginal players. DWJ gives us a bit more of what we need right now (scoring and aggressive offense), but I don't think we would benefit much from him if we had a mostly healthy roster.

DWJ is the most inefficient shooter on the team - and unfortunately that's the most important part of his game. Plus, he's not a point guard - he's a turnover machine.
