Proof that NBA players can be just as clueless as fans when it comes to this stuff.
Isn't Hart part of some association? I could be wrong.

I'm going to assume "freezing" the draft pick wouldn't apply to another team controlling the Suns pick because that would be pretty hilarious if the Suns were over the second apron and their pick belonging to another team was downgraded.

Look at the last three bullet points together. You wouldn't be allowed to trade a pick that could potentially be "frozen" and moved to the end of the first round.

But the picks have already been traded.

It only applies to 2032 and future years of not-yet-tradeable picks.

If we decide that we are going to be above the second apron anyway, we might as well use our TPE to add a player above the minimum.

2032? The current CBA being negotiated is reportedly a 7-year deal.

Yes, starting 8 years out from the 2024-25 season (the earliest year that a pick will be untradeable until after that season). That 2032 pick will be "frozen" in 2025 (can't be traded whereas it would normally become available to trade that summer).

So we can still use the TPE? That’s cool

Not a cap expert but Zion is still on the books for $13mil until the extension kicks in July 1st?

Well from a health point it’s not good, but the basketball fit would be insane. Imagine the spacing surrounding the best rim pressure player in the game.

I’m terrified of depending on Zion having his head together just as much as I am of Ayton.

Disagree. Trading for Kawhi would be, I think, slightly dumber.

:)

What about Ayton for Zion on a 3 way trade that net us role players and draft capital for the Pels? That would open options for both teams.

Pelicans are not likely to want to break a dollar into quarters and dimes, but we DO NEED to do it.

Some ideas?

Ya I would be too, which is why I much prefer option C….was just saying if it was Zion or Ayton I’d probably lean Zion…though that’s hard to say without knowing where Ayton is commitment wise now that Monty is gone.

I would honestly rather have Ayton than Zion. Zion is an insane basketball talent, but he's made of glass. I think he's just too bulky to be able to stay on an NBA court. There's always the possibility that he has an Embiid-like career, where his first few years are marred by injuries but he eventually figures it out and manages to have a great set of prime years. But I haven't seen the discipline and ethic from Zion to indicate that he's willing and able to stay in shape, take his rehab seriously, take care to avoid injury, etc. I think it's more likely that he's on a Greg Oden trajectory where he'll bounce around a bit and be hurt for most of a few more years and then be out of the league. Quote me on this post in a few years if I'm wrong, but I would not want to be stuck with Zion on a long-term contract given the health issues.
