Any collective interest (still) in a .net radio show?

Post by Charlie Smithy! »

Hey guys,

As you probably remember, I had planned to do a radio show for our (hopefully still) beloved Phoenix Suns.

Unfortunately, an unexpected move to Idaho of all places (along with a 1 meg DSL internet connection) pretty much nixed that idea fairly quickly.

HOWEVA! I have since acquired faster internets (at least compared to 1 meg DSL, Lol) that should most definitely suffice for my purposes.

Anyway, just gauging interest here. God knows I can talk to myself for hours on end, but even for me, that would get old after awhile, haha. This thing would be all about you guys and this awesome long-standing community.

.net radio would most likely be hosted on BlogTalkRadio (unless you guys know of some better alternatives; I'm totally open) with a neato call-in feature via phone or Skype. And even if you miss the live shows, there's always an archive.

If this thing takes off to any degree, I'd probably make it a weekly 1-hour thing, with shows in between for notable roster/staff moves and the like.

So yeah, would you guys still be up for something like this?

Yes. That's a great idea. But a hefty time commitment.

You could do it biweekly and get a pretty decent audience in time. Schedule guests mainly from this website, seeing as how this is where the most knowledgeable and dedicated fans on the web are gathered. I'd listen to Laz or Bobster talk ball for an hour at work, as well as many others. You'd be better than BSOTS, Rise Network and Empire of the Suns by the first episode, I imagine.

You should. And I vote for every other week to start.

I would totally be into this. I would be happy to appear on it and/or co-host it or whatever. I actually do a weekly podcast about geek/comp-sci stuff so I have some experience at basic audio recording and editing. It would be fun!

I'd definitely listen and be into it.

Yeah I'm not lying - I'd listen to every pod. And I'd tell my friends to listen too.

Im in, I want to be the funny accent foreigner like leigh ellis is for the Starters, I also have my 10-episode yearly podcast ochoseis, in spanish, but I could help you produce/edit it. I could host it too for the time being, if we grow too much we would explore other options.

Where's DesertCoast when we need him? He was the chief engineer and producer of the old Drunken Amateur Report podcasts ...

Can't. I'm on the radio every day in Phoenix already (not sports). Someone might recognize my voice.

Would that put you in violation of a non-compete clause or something?

Why would it matter if someone recognized your voice?

I think only if you are getting paid or selling advertisements.

Yea I don't get that either. This is to talk about the Suns, not porn.

Thank you guys sooooo much for your feedback and incredible generosity.

I especially love the idea of co-hosting this show; totally on board to do it with Mori/Marty (tee hee hee!) and my best Mexican friend, Senor A. Cardoso (ayyyyy)!

Gotta say, I like the every other week approach - would hate to experience burnout on either side of the equation with this.

Also, just wanna personally thank Jerry Colangelo (if it's really you!) for posting here so many years.

At any rate, Imma take this all under advisement and get the ball rolling on this. Don't wanna promise any set timeline, but I *do* want this to happen sooner rather than later.

You guys rock!
