Nicola Mirotic is Chicago bound:
No word yet on how much they'll give him.

Hmm. Good point but I thought Gambo specifically said tax payer mle.Ring_Wanted wrote:Oh, and Carey, remember that tweet about the Suns spending the MLE after making all the FA signings? It's not the MLE. They were refering to the 'room exception', which is 50% of the MLE for two years, and is available to teams after using their cap space. That's how the Bobcats signed McRoberts after getting Jefferson, for instance.

Patrick Patterson re-signed with the Raptors for 18mil over 3 years.
Re: Around the league: June 2014
SERIOUSLY?! 6M per for Patterson? Christ.
Re: Around the league: June 2014
I actually don't think that's so outrageous.

Here's a quick comparison: http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... game::none
Patterson is 6 years younger, which is no small thing, but Frye was superior in every way (except arguably rebounding) last year, even with that half season of wetting the bed. I think this might point to Frye being out of our price range right now.

Their numbers are identical and yes, Patterson is 6 years younger. A more apt comparison may be Markeiff Morris, who would look for a contract similar to Patterson.

Re: Around the league: June 2014
Patterson is a stronger rebounder and maybe defender too, but offensively Frye is in another class even if the numbers don't really show it. Anyway, 6M per is another overpay, although less outrageous than others.
See? This is why I say that maybe we should adjust what are our espectations for a fair contract, any given range or tier. 2Pat had 4M per written all over it under the old standards, but it seems that every role player is getting 2-3M per more than they should.
I hope this is just a circumstantial frency, and above all I wish the Suns are not caught up in it, but I wouldn't count on either. Still, at some point doing nothing is better than playing along with the madness.

Teams are spending for the future with that new Tv contract coming and the cap going up because of it. It's just not here yet so it just looks weird with all these teams jumping the gun already.

No, I think 6mil is fair. Look, you always pay more for bigs and Patterson played a big role for the raps. He's their first big off their bench, rebounds well, shot the 3 at over 40% and can still play down low if needed. He's not even in his prime yet. I think that's a solid deal for them. That's what you should be paying your top bench guy. They weren't going to get him for 4 mil. They just weren't.

Maybe that's why 9-10Mper guys like Bledsoe and Hayward are in a position to command 13-14M per, besides their RFA status, and also why 5-6M per players like Hawes or Frye are looking at 8M or so.carey wrote:Teams are spending for the future with that new Tv contract coming and the cap going up because of it. Re: Around the league: June 2014
I was thinking that he shot worse than Frye from 3, but when he was traded to Toronto he did shoot 41% from 3 for them over the course of 48 games.ShelC wrote: He's their first big off their bench, rebounds well, shot the 3 at over 40% and can still play down low if needed.

Re: Around the league: June 2014
I don't know. I've watched a number of Raptors games this season and honestly I didn't see 6M of impact. 'Steep', as Carey pointed, is what first comes to my mind. 6M per, man. On the other hand, it's just 'three' years.ShelC wrote:...I think that's a solid deal for them. That's what you should be paying your top bench guy. They weren't going to get him for 4 mil. Re: Around the league: June 2014
Personally I'd rather pay Hawes 8M than Patterson 6M, probably just me though.

I hate almost all of these FA contracts so far. The market is always crazy. I really want to see us avoid another 2010 summer.
Re: Around the league: June 2014
I want no part in either, yikes. At this point just resign EB and call it a day.TheOriginalOriginal wrote:Personally I'd rather pay Hawes 8M than Patterson 6M, probably just me though.

Not saying I want Hawes, just stating my preference if forced to choose. I'm with you, re-up EB and move on. Make a run at Love.
Re: Around the league: June 2014
I've been in favor of sitting out this free agent market and improving through trades for a while.

Unless we can get LeBron.
