Suns News: Week 5 11/13-11/19

A Monroe for Clarkson swap could be interesting. Maybe we add a 2nd or two. What's Clarkson's contract like?

2 more years after this one. McD said no money past '19 so I can't see us taking on his $13M/yr salary.

I think people assume Tyson plays good defense purely based off reputation. The Phoenix Sun version is a poor defender. He’s purely a rebounder.Superbone wrote:Defense? Have you watched him lately? He's good for one thing now and that's rebounding. Oh, and I forgot veteran presence.ShelC wrote:I'm surprised there isn't more interest in Chandler. He's old, but is a solid vet and could help a team on the bubble in need of some defense. Thought the Cs would be a decent fit but they don't look like they're struggling for defense.

Not interested in Clarkson. We need a PG

Yeah, I'm confused why his name keeps coming up when we're talking about PGs.specialsauce wrote:Not interested in Clarkson. We need a PG

He's a ball handler. He's as much a PG as James or Knight

I would rather not trade at all than make a lateral move. Clarkson will just do the same thing that Mike James does that everyone hates. Might as well let Ulis run the show. George Hill or Patrick Beverly. That's all I can see as possibly being available that will make a difference.

Which is again, not a PG lol.Split T wrote:He's a ball handler. He's as much a PG as James or Knight

The idea is that Booker will start assuming a lot more of the primary initiator responsibility as the years go on. If that's the case, you don't need or necessarily want a traditional PG. You want someone who can operate well without the ball, make an open 3 and D up on the other team's top backcourt option. Think Patrick Beverly next to James Harden. Or Brogdon next to Giannis.
Clarkson is better than Ulis and James at just about everything. His contract is $11.5M/year, not $13M. And if we're in a position to draft Doncic this summer (also not a PG, but someone I wouldn't hesitate to start there), Clarkson slides easily into the 1st-G-off-the-bench spot and could play alongside either LD or DB.

I was advocating a straight Beverly for Bledsoe swap when he was being shopped. I think Avery Bradley would be a nice fit. If we pass the ball well as a team we don't really need a Nash-like PG. We have willing passers up & down the lineup in Booker, Bender, Chriss & Jackson.

Clarkson having two more years after this one is a bit of a no go unless we can dump Knight. His ideal role is the Lou Williams/Leandro Barbosa 3rd guard role.

Clarkson is bantha fodder. PASS.

Maybe Milwaukee would take Monroe and a pick for Brodgon?

Could be, they are (literally) a little thin under the basket.JCSunsfan wrote: Maybe Milwaukee would take Monroe and a pick for Brodgon?
