Can we just skip to The part where we have a new mediocre point guard who makes us a 35 win team?

What I would give for a 35 win team...

It's clear we aren't aiming high enough. It looks like Ariza is going to be packaged with the 2019 pick for ??? James Jones pretty much said it when they said that they aren't focusing on the draft scouting department anymore and have moved their focus to building up their pro scouting department. Granted they fired quite a number of their scouts after firing McDonough.

Wow. That would be so dumb. My goal would be to trade Ariza without the pick and get a competent point guard and an expiring contract in return. Or just keep Ariza and preserve the cap room for the next free agency period. This season is pretty much gone anyway.

Mediocre, 32 years old and past his prime.

By the way, Bender got 25 minutes tonight. I thought he was great. Numbers don't pop out in the box score, but he actually plays defense, unlike most of our guys. His shooting is pretty bad from distance, but I'd be tight too if I didn't get any minutes all year. Just let the kid play a bunch at PF and he'll make up for most of Ayton's flaws. We're really screwing up our development of Bender.
Bender isn’t that bad. He doesn’t hurt the team with dumb decisions and plays a role. He is the ultimate role player. On the plus side his size helps us on the defensive end and it takes some pressure away from Ayton in regards of rim protection and his inexisting help defense. Right now he would probably be our best option at the 4.

Goran Dragic? I would be so happy if they traded for him at this point.

Yeah, if what I read is accurate, James Jones is going to trade our top 5 pick and players for a mediocre PG, and we are going to miss out on a true generational player. But we will get another 10-12 wins a year. Woo. Hoo.

I thought we were discussing Rondo, but you can put Dragic in the same category. I think we have seen enough Dragic in Phoenix.

anybody else read this article ?
I not sure what to make of all the Ayton quotes tbh , constantly mentioning his pride and being willing to fight/play hard....

While they didn't scream at each other, Booker and Ayton clearly were at odds.

“I start to feel stuff,” Ayton said. “When I don’t sense it, that the energy is not there, that’s when you start to hear my mouth. I don’t care who it is. Nineteen-year vet or 15 years, it doesn’t matter. We all have a job to do and I have to step it up a little more, too. Just show more. Even if I think I’m showing more, just show extra. Exaggerate it a little bit just to make it spread. Make it vocal. Make everybody see it.”

I remember when he came out in the draft. They were saying he was like Chris Paul in how he ran the pick & roll. Turns out he wasn't (surprise,) but he might be a guy that can get Ayton the ball reliably. Still, Ayton has to stop camping out 15 feet from the rim or the whole endeavor is pointless.

"'For me, just trying to establish and show everybody how to be a pro and how to win the right way and not be negative and not really worry about the record,' Ayton said."

What does Trevor Ariza think of that?

But why? Because had a really good season here once?

McDonough is gone. He has a great relationship with Igor. He says he is healthy now. I think it would help the team tremendously.
