It's got to be a team mindset - they can't just be expecting Ayton and McGee to get everything.

Like I've been saying forever, we need a rebounding PF next to Ayton. When Ayton is defending almost every shot, he isn't even near the boards a lot of the time.

Were you time shifting too? Because they didn't do it until after halftime.

That's not sexy enough for the Suns. They like to make it a little interesting.

I thought it was incidental at first. Then after watching the replay, I thought they were going to throw Jones out as it looked like he purposely jumped up into his face. I was then baffled by the refs’ verdict.

I said they'd go on a run in the 3rd quarter. The Pels aren't going to roll over and the Suns bench guards haven't played well in a while.
This game was basically a textbook '21-'22 Suns win except for the stifling first half defense.

I wonder why Crawford is watching the Suns. I know he's beloved by everyone, so maybe he's thinking about joining a coaching staff in the future.

And the previous oldest player to do it was Steve Nash.

We need to do a better job rebounding, but that was always going to be NOP’s strength against us. We don’t want a rebounding pf next to Ayton because those guys usually aren’t very good on offense. Truth is the offensive rebounding didn’t hurt us. We still won because we are a significantly better 1st shot team and will be throughout. I imagine this will be their best offensive rebounding game and they still lost by 11.
Re: Playoffs Round 1: New Orleans Pelicans @ Phoenix Suns, Sun 4/17/22
Solid Game 1 but the offensive rebounds have to get cleaned up. JV missed a ton of putbacks so we need to keep him off the glass. Payne was pretty bad last night and needs to get back into rhythm. The 2nd unit gave up the leads the starters built up, even tho CamJ, Craig and JaVale all played well enough. We need Payne's scoring and he did a better job attacking the paint in the 2nd half. Craig was really good defensively I thought, CamJ brought his offense but needs to hit the boards a bit. I don't know how we solve the rebounding issue if DA is our only true big. Hayes wasn't a factor, maybe they start Nance at some point.
I don't think we've seen CP really just decide to take over like he did. I was worried in the 1st half that he was dragging and looked out of shape, glad he got aggressive at the right time.
Did a good job containing CJ, who only shook loose a few times. Same with BI. Mikal, Jae, Book, Craig, Cam all took turns defending them really well. The Pels need big games from those two because there's not a lot of offense elsewhere unless someone like Jones gets hot.
I wouldn't mind Shamet for a few minutes to spell Book. Can't expect him to go 40 minutes every night.

I don’t really notice the off ball defense as much, but I was impressed with how he defender Ingram. Thought Ingram would get his points and we’d limit CJ, but we took care of both of them. They only got their points on huge volume.

Still not sure why Monty didn’t challenge this one.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 8:38 pmThen Ayton somehow gets called for a foul when Jonas swung his elbow back into his face.
Re: Playoffs Round 1: New Orleans Pelicans @ Phoenix Suns, Sun 4/17/22
Ayton probably leaned over a half an inch so they wouldn’t overturn it…that’s usually how those go. I still can’t believe they called the Jones shoulder incidental contact…should’ve been flagrant and it wasn’t even called a common foul.
