I don't see why, if all the teams are there in the same place, they don't re-seed and get the top 16 from the bubble. The Nets and Wiz send glorified GLeague teams and the Nets will secure a playoff spot while we'll most likely be on the outside looking in. It's a joke. We'd beat both teams easily in a series. The Magic too.

Michael Jordan really pushed Silver to keep things as close to how the game is usually run as possible. He warned in getting too gimmicky. I suspect changing the conference playoff format would fall under that notion.

I think the real Suns' ally is the New Orleans defense.

I'd take Lowry in that fight every time.

I want to revisit the opinion around these parts that, no question asked, you take "current Zion" over Ayton every time. A laughable claim, considering his lack of health and deteriorating athleticism. Hell, I trashed Ayton on the gameday thread today and he still managed to put up 23 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals.

You still want to make the argument for Zion? I've noticed nobody has bothered to come back to this argument since it was first made a few days ago.

Dr. Brian Sutterer: "Zion is in a race against his own body. If you go watch his Duke highlights compared to now, the difference is profound. In my opinion, his athleticism and conditioning have regressed substantially"

https://theathletic.com/1976953/2020/08 ... -own-body/
Dr. Brian Sutterer, of sports injury YouTube fame, has been watching intently and has his concerns. “He’s in a race against his own body,” Dr. Sutterer said over the phone. “If you go watch his Duke highlights compared to now, the difference is profound. In my opinion, his athleticism and conditioning have regressed substantially. He’s less explosive, less conditioned, slower on defense, has already had a portion of his meniscus removed from his knee after an injury, and he’s still under close monitoring from the medical staff.”

Through all the immediate Twitter buzz over Zion’s run, Dr. Sutterer sees a troubling long term trend. “I feel like nobody really wants to call it like we all see it,” Dr. Sutterer said. “He’s trying to reverse a career trajectory that by the Pelicans’ own admission is worrisome as evidenced by his ‘reprogramming’ and scrutinized minutes. He had four months to start making positive strides and to me he’s regressed more. When will he finally start to reverse course? Will it be in time before more substantial fitness concerns and injuries limit him and threaten his career? Instead of outpacing these risks, I’m worried that Zion is losing the race.”
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

With Ayton, we're waiting to see if he ever "gets it" from a tactical and competitive stand point.

With Zion, we're waiting to see if his body will break down.

One side is hoping for progression, the other is fearing regression. Pick your poison. How does the glass of water look to you?

I see a glass half full with Ayton and half empty with Zion. Ayton can control the little things he needs to improve while already showing that he can consistently put up really good numbers and impact a game. Zion can't control whether or not his body will break down and it's honestly kind of sad to see.

This. You literally don't need anything new from Zion besides some experience to have him be a top 10 player in this league. At 22.

For Ayton, you hope he progresses enough to be a clear top 10 center in the league, or even a top two player in his own draft class.

I agree that the injuries are a concern. But Zion is still very young, and there is still a decent chance that he gets the injuries under control and goes on to have a long and great career. Hope the Pelicans take good care of him and don't burn him out or push him until he reinjures himself.

The injuries are a MASSIVE red flag. Does nobody here look at his build and frame? Does that look like the kind of guy that's going to hold up for years in the league? And beyond scoring on a bunch of explosive plays, his rebounding numbers and defense are pretty atrocious.

We're actually arguing against a guy we drafted that's already shown us that he can pretty consistently put up 20, 10 and 2 or 3 blocks a game his 2nd season in the league while almost always having a positive +/-, you know, the thing that indicates they impact the game. Pretty ho hum numbers though and he likely won't improve upon them. Unreal.

Zion can absolutely beat a team on his own I think, but I agree with looking at him and just wondering if he can keep it together...I'm not gonna sell low on Ayton.. enjoying his progress and still happy with the decision to draft him, I don't even want to go into the Ayton/Doncic space, clearly Doncic is a better player now, but Aytons a great fit with what else we have.

Yeah, nobody is saying Ayton is Len 2.0. Some are saying he isn't the generational player that Zion is. It isn't a slight to Ayton. It is a compliment to Zion.

And to be clear, Zion got put on a minutes-restriction due to the time he spent away from the bubble. The Pelicans med team is being proactively conservative.
