Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
Yes, definitely closer in style of play to Jokic than to Kanter. I like how Sengun plays.

He's 20 years old. More like young Jokic.
I mean, I was just comparing their absolutely horrible defense, which should be a legit concern.
….but calling him young Jokic cuz he dropped 15 and 14 on the Spurs, one of the worst teams in the league, is certainly a take.

I said more like young Jokic. Compare their age 20 seasons. It's not as much of a reach as comparing Sengun to Kanter.Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:24 pmFlagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 2:28 pmEnes Kanter?Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:24 amEhhh, not that big of fan of Alperen Sengun. I'm sure they believe that if they can get Wemby next to Sengun, that will make him look pretty good on defense.Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:24 pmFlagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 2:28 pmEnes Kanter?Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:24 amEhhh, not that big of fan of Alperen Sengun. That’s cool but Sengun defense is really terrible, that’s not reaching, that’s fact. If you want to call him Jokic like offensively, fine, but defensively he’s very much like Enes Kanter which is to say they both are really bad defenders as big men, which is all I was saying.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:30 pmI said more like young Jokic. Wemby going to be doing a lot of heavy lifting in that duo.In2ition wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:31 pmI'm sure they believe that if they can get Wemby next to Sengun, that will make him look pretty good on defense.Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:24 pmFlagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 2:28 pmEnes Kanter?Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:24 amEhhh, not that big of fan of Alperen Sengun. Fair enough. Jokic hasn't been a good defender and he won the league MVP.Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 4:48 pmThat’s cool but Sengun defense is really terrible, that’s not reaching, that’s fact. If I recall his defensive metrics weren't super awful, I could be wrong though.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 5:04 pmFair enough. He (Jokic) has definitely improved defensively every season.

His defensive metrics(depending on what ones you look at) think he’s an all-nba quality defender. The metrics suck.

There has been several times this year where Sengun was benched due to how bad his defense was and several times where teammates were visibly upset because how bad he was getting cooked. He is not a good defender.
Then again, it’s the rockets and his coach is Steve Silas and he is only 20.

I like Sengun, but as a prospect. He doesn’t make sense as our starting C with Booker/KD…I’m with you WW, his defense makes him rough

Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
I don’t think Jokic is a terrible defender but he’s not very good, but I’ve seen several times over the past couple season where he had big defensive plays at the end of games. He’s a mixed bag for sure.
Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
He’s a smart defender, but he’s not a flexible defender. You can attack him because he can only play one scheme at a decent level.
Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
Lemme tell ya, if Ayton was just a smart system defender and an elite offensive force that'd be just peachy.
Love, Hurts.
Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
Given the core of our roster, you want defense from your center more than offense. Karl Anthony Towns for example would be awful on this team because he'd want to chuck up a bunch of shots and plays crappy defense. I don't see why a guy like Sengun would be a good swap for Ayton.
Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
It would make for some very entertaining highlights.

How excited are you going to be when we trade DA for Looney and draymondMori Chu wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 8:10 amGiven the core of our roster, you want defense from your center more than offense. I never implied a straight swap in a trade.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 8:10 amGiven the core of our roster, you want defense from your center more than offense. Sengun's potential trajectory is much more vertical than Ayton's at this point, IMO. Getting a bit younger isn't a terrible idea, but I think the Suns would look more towards someone like Capella that Split mentioned.

Re: Suns News: Weeks 19 & 20 (2/20 - 3/5)
The problem with the Draymond scenario is he’d either have to opt in to his player option and then be traded or we’d have to sign and trade for him and I’m not sure we can do that and stay under the hard cap.
I’d look at Atlanta for Capela plus a wing or Indy for Turner plus a wing.
