Looks like Sun's mgt aren't the only ones questioning DAs 'max' value...

We're putting way to much stock in articles written by people who really don't have any special insight into the situation between the Suns and Ayton.

Well, I think every team in the league is probably interested in Ayton at a less-than-max contract level.

Sometimes deep in Suns Twitter you find gems like this:

Everyone's favorite rumor meme is apparently risking it all as he made an appearance on local Phoenix TV.
At this point, if Kyrie leaves Brooklyn and KD doesn't end up in Phoenix, Suns fans might lose their shit.

Can’t find the post, but just wanted to concur with the person that summarized the recent Empire of the Suns episode - Kellan nailed it. One other point that he didn’t really hit on: if you’re going to have an outside-the-box, bare-bones draft strategy like Jones does, you better freaking nail the pick when you make it.

Let’s go fellas! KD coming in 3 way trade, right?
Here’s hoping we don’t lose more than Ayton + Cam J and more than one pick to get him.
Let’s see what the Nets are gonna work out.

Yeah, his "this isn't shades of grey, this is black and white and what the Suns said is 100% wrong" was right on the money.
The part about the entire billion-dollar Suns organization has 14 people in Basketball Ops. FOURTEEN! TOTAL!?! Other teams have more than 14 scouts.

Yes. They need to finish the investigation so we can move forward!

Or backwards, depending on what happens.

What does this mean? Is that standard procedure? Can we still offer the 4 year max or does another team have to offer it and us match? If nobody offers him a contract, is he stuck with only this offer from us? I've been following the NBA forever but never pay attention to these kinds of details.

It's standard procedure. If we didn't tender the QO, DA would become unrestricted on Friday. Now he's restricted and the $16mil is kind of a placeholder. He can still sign a new deal with us or someone else, and then the first year's salary of the new deal replaces the $16mil. If he doesn't sign any deal, he plays out next season for $16mil and becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.
