I don’t think so. Anderson is 21 million. Johnson plus Ellington is 24-25 million. That’s close enough
Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
I'm not seeing Ellington in any of the ESPN reporting.
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
Also, Ellington is worse than Daniels, Bridges, and Booker. Miami is dumping salary on us, and we're apparently taking it because?

You're right. I was thinking Anderson's salary was less than that (probably because of him reducing it for next season). ESPN trade machine says it works.

Ellington is expiring and we just dumped Ryan Anderson on them. Johnson isn’t anything special, but he can at least play basketball. We’re paying Ryan Anderson 20 million to have courtside seats.

It’s a bleh move. I’d rather have Tyler Johnson than Ryan Anderson. But Tyler Johnson is not going to excite me AT ALL. There goes any chance we had left of acquiring Jrue Holiday, Conley, Teague, or any other player with a remotely high salary.
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
I haven't really watched Tyler Johnson much, so I don't know what to think. Did James Jones play with Johnson in his later years in Miami? Is this another case where the GM wants to get players he liked from his days as a coach or player?
Also, doesn't this hurt our cap this offseason? I thought Ryan Anderson had a contract where most of his salary next year could be cut or bought out. Now we're on the hook to pay Tyler Johnson $20m? How can he possibly be worth that? I can't help but wonder what else we could have done with that money and cap space.

Ellington is a free agent this summer. It’s fine. The TJ is an upgrade with higher upside playing in PHX.

Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
We could have waived Anderson and paid him only 15.6 million. Johnson has a 19.2 million player option. So we added 3.6 million in salary next year with this deal.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:31 pmI haven't really watched Tyler Johnson much, so I don't know what to think. He's much better than Mike James. He's a pretty good player. Just not worth anywhere near $19M (which wasn't his average salary on the contract - it just spiked to that).specialsauce wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:31 pmMike James.Aztec Sunsfan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:07 pmWhat player would you say he is a poor’s man version?

There was already 0 chance of those other trades happeningspecialsauce wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:30 pmIt’s a bleh move. I’d rather have Tyler Johnson than Ryan Anderson. Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson
That is not accurate. Tyler Johnson has more guaranteed money owed to him for the 2019-20 than Anderson. So this does eat into the Suns potential cap space.
Also,Tyler Johnson isn't a point guard. The Heat play him there in tandem with Wade, who handles the ball a lot.
We're taking on a little more salary without any real benefit. This is a move we should have passed on unless we have something lined up to get some value out of Ellington.
Trendon Watford. Please and thank you.
Re: Suns Trade for Tyler Johnson/Wayne Ellington
I don't mind this trade. I don't know what they plan on doing with Ellington, but it could be for another trade, buy him out, or even use him as the sg while Booker keeps mending. His salary could be used in a trade for someone making around the same, and they need some shooting.
As for Johnson, he's a serviceable player, and the nice thing is that he is actually a piece worth some trade value most likely next year or in a separate deal this year. We'll see what happens, but I do not think anything else gets done this year.
