Zion Williamson is in the running ... has played in only 85 of 170 possible games.

I remember very well the year that LeBron was so broken that he just threw the ball off the back of the backboard for a violation in frustration when inbounding the ball from the baseline. More of that please.
Oh, I meant ones that actually play. Even when AD isn't injured, he plays like he is.LazarusLong wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 5:26 pmZion Williamson is in the running ... has played in only 85 of 170 possible games.
He was that for a period but has since got his act together starting in Portland.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 3:52 pmEhh, no one has thought he’s that good for a long time. If anything he’s underrated now. Most people think he’s garbage and not worth a roster spot. He clearly is and has proven that this year shooting over 40% from 3.
Who was the guy we had that supposedly shot lights out in practice but was horrible in games? He lasted for a cup of coffee in the NBA.Indy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 4:51 pmThere should be an award like the Razzie for the guy with the biggest gap between talent and on-court production.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 3:54 pmI’m starting to think this too. Sure he’s a top 10 guy when he’s healthy and playing at his best, but that just almost never happens anymore. His offense is fine for a big, but he’s taken a major step back on defense. He hasn’t been that good this year and he’s simply just never healthy. He’s a borderline TJ Warren in that sense(ok not quite that)
I remember when I thought we really missed out by not getting our #1 pick the year Zion came out. I am SO glad we have Ayton over him.LazarusLong wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 5:26 pmZion Williamson is in the running ... has played in only 85 of 170 possible games.
Dan Langhi, methinks ...Superbone wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 5:50 pmWho was the guy we had that supposedly shot lights out in practice but was horrible in games? So, are you ready to trade Ayton straight across?Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:19 pmI'm still holding onto Zion because I think a huge part of the problem is that he's playing for the Pelicans. I think we'd have seen a much different start to his career if he were drafted by a different franchise.
That's not to say he's not without issues of his own making. I just want to see how he performs within the structure of a real NBA franchise before writing him off as a bust.
Not now because Zion's health is a complete mystery. If we're talking 2nd year Ayton for rookie Zion, yeah, I'd probably make that swap.Superbone wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:25 pmSo, are you ready to trade Ayton straight across?Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:19 pmI'm still holding onto Zion because I think a huge part of the problem is that he's playing for the Pelicans. Phew! Good thing that didn't happen. I'll pass on the mystery prize and take the known commodity.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:34 pmNot now because Zion's health is a complete mystery. They were both mystery prizes two seasons prior.Superbone wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 7:13 pmPhew! Good thing that didn't happen. It's like Oscar Robertson and Bob Cousy didn't exist.3rdside wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 3:33 pmWith that said, the following quantitative approach to assessing a playmakers ability suggests he's not only not overrated, he's one of the best.

With the Reddit conversation here:
It must surely be a case of lies, damned lies and statistics again as, for me, playmaking must be related to a team's performance (making everyone on the team better, reflected by a higher than expected team W-L record), and in Westbrook's best playmaking year OKC finished 48-34 only and were knocked out in the first round.
Compare that to Kidd's seasons in NJ where he took his team to the finals, and Kidd is not even on that list.
