I hear ya, it's just a slippery slope.

MLS is the only North American league that doesn't have a conventional "draft" for it's best incoming players. They have a draft, FWIW, but college kids aren't nearly as good as the professionals coming in from abroad. Anyway, they've had to implement a bunch of goofy cap mechanics to prevent the major markets from hoarding all the best incoming talent, and even then they've done a pretty poor job of it. LAFC started playing in 2018 and won MLS Cup in their 5th year because all of the foreign players want to be in LA.

Ya they would never get rid of it, but I would like to see some tweaks…even just making teams ineligible to move up two years in a row would be an improvement. I’d even spread out the odds a little more and do a lottery for more picks. Maybe add a 5th pick. Then maybe just make things easier to move in restricted free agency.

I don't know if others would agree with this or not, but personally in the next CBA I wish they'd get rid of pick swaps and get rid of conditionally traded picks. I hate trying to keep track of who is swapping with whom, except if it's top-10, but they gave up their pick last year, so the can only swap this year, etc. Just trade the darn pick or don't. I worry that the pick swap is becoming a way to wiggle out of the Stepien rule, which I think is a good rule since GMs have too many incentives to trade away future assets.

I feel like pick swaps don’t often come to fruition though. They did for Boston with that Brooklyn trade, but generally the team trading the rights to swap is the better team so they won’t likely swap unless they fall off.

You don't have to keep track of it.

Get rid of the draft. Allocate money based on record and let the rookies sign where they want. If they want to sign with the nba champion for the lowest offer then that’s up to them.

If teams want to tank to be able to offer the most money, then that’s up to them, but there’s no guarantee anyone will take their money. Need to be able to sell players on your franchise.

And yes I’d let teams trade their allocated money like draft picks.
I've heard this suggestion too. It would create geographical advantages for teams that already get them in free agency. You could offer a rookie $5M to play in Miami vs $10M in OKC and they'd probably choose Miami every time, considering they can make up the difference in endorsements and state tax (not to mention lifestyle).

Ya I guess I’m ok with that. Maybe because I think Phoenix would do ok, but also I just feel like rookies should have the same option as vets. NBA does too much to help badly run teams. Yes it would also hurt small markets that are run well as they would have to be better than the bigger markets, but they already have that problem and this would at least put them ahead of the poorly run small and mid markets.

Nuggets are playing the feisty Pels on the first night of a B2B before going to Phoenix. They have a 3 game lead on Memphis in the loss column with 7 to play.

CBA update and the Bontemps threads are a quick recap of Silver's press conference. Deadline for an agreement is 3/31.

I’m not even that worried anymore. We need to be able to handle anyone and we should get healthy and have our rhythm by round 1(6 game tune-up). I hope the warriors and clippers both try to lose to avoid us, that would be funny. I’ll just take the 4 seed and whatever opponent comes with it. We should be the better team regardless.

I think I'd rather face the Clips. The Warriors are so hard to beat at home, I just don't want to go into a series worrying that if we lose one of our home games, suddenly we have to beat them in SF. Despite being the more talented team on paper, the Clippers always find a way to blow it in the playoffs, so I just don't have the same fear factor with them.

I just don’t think the warriors can guard us, especially without Wiggins.

We’ll lose if Klay hits 11 3s, but they will have to shoot the lights out to beat us.

And the refs awarded Giannis with two free throws.
