If he's with the Suns for the long haul and this isn't some detour toward a bigger plan, he still needs to show me he's a $30M player.

No more passes for inconsistent effort or mental lapses. He's not a young player anymore.

I want to know if there's a player option or trade kicker in the contract.

Think of the Suns matching that quickly as their way of thanking the Pacers for doing all the work for them.
If this was James Jones' end game, it was indeed pretty clever. Not so sure about the relationship part of it though. Ayton is a good guy, so maybe it'll be water under the bridge.
If Ayton holds a grudge over his $133M/4yr contract, Jones isn’t the guy I’ll blame.

According to Gambo, I'm sure it was so the Suns could call him first to let him know of their plans.

I seriously hope the Suns heard about his gaming addiction and get him to get at least eight hours of sleep a night. That'll go a long way.

I'm curious about this as well. How badly did the Pacers try to screw with the Suns cap situation?

I'm sure it feels a little different than the fancy dinners in Vegas with the Suns ownership group for a special signing ceremony that Booker got...twice. I'm sure it's more about the respect and feeling wanted than it is about the money.

Hopefully the immediate matching without hesitation means something to him, though.

Ayton had been enthusiastic about the possibility of pairing with talented young guard Tyrese Haliburton and becoming a centerpiece of the Pacers' rebuild, sources told ESPN.

I wonder if the Suns will decide that since they're paying Ayton max money they should utilize him more in the offense to make the money worth it.

Who’s got the odds on 2022 Ayton Goblin Mode vs Ayton Beastmode?
Is that a 2K thing?
It could be now that he has his bag. ;)

Have they considered a brain transplant?

No word on trade kickers.

The Pacers really moved around a bunch of stuff in the last few days just to have it mean nothing. They probably feel some type of way about Bill Duffy right now.

OTOH, they could've cleared space to offer Ayton weeks ago but didn't, so who the hell knows what they're actually thinking.

When he makes three All-Star teams and one All-NBA First Team and whines about not getting the same hoopla as someone else who did the same, maybe I’ll listen. Until then, I don’t want to hear him whine about being treated like less of a big deal than Book. He is less of a big deal than Book.

That first fancy dinner was before Booker ever made an All-Star team.

They can blame themselves. They’re the ones who declined Suns pricetag for Ayton. Suns ended up with the deal they wanted last year.
