If this was James Jones' end game, it was indeed pretty clever. Not so sure about the relationship part of it though. Ayton is a good guy, so maybe it'll be water under the bridge.
If Ayton holds a grudge over his $133M/4yr contract, Jones isn’t the guy I’ll blame.
I'm sure it feels a little different than the fancy dinners in Vegas with the Suns ownership group for a special signing ceremony that Booker got...twice. I'm sure it's more about the respect and feeling wanted than it is about the money.
Hopefully the immediate matching without hesitation means something to him, though.
When he makes three All-Star teams and one All-NBA First Team and whines about not getting the same hoopla as someone else who did the same, maybe I’ll listen. Until then, I don’t want to hear him whine about being treated like less of a big deal than Book. He is less of a big deal than Book.
