I just don't think there is any chance of getting KD without sending them Mikal. I love the guy, but if we are talking about Kevin Durant, you have to give them something valuable back. You can't just give them picks and random middling vets/rotation guys for a 30 ppg scorer.

It's always been unrealistic to acquire KD without sending out either Ayton or Mikal, if not both.

I think the Suns prefer to keep Mikal, but Bill Duffy took that option off of the table by seemingly misleading the Pacers to believe the Suns wouldn't match Ayton's offer sheet. I didn't think the Pacers would actually do that so I never really considered it a possibility, but here we are now.

It's gonna be an interesting locker room because everyone will be waiting for January 15th if the Suns are unwilling to put Mikal in the trade. Then we'll be right back where we started with everyone seeing the writing on the wall that the Suns don't highly value Ayton. The only difference will be his contract is set, which would likely make it easier to trade him.

And I think I asked this a couple times already, but BYC only impacts if it is a S&T, not if we trade someone after we sign them, right?

"not impacted by DA signing" could just mean not negatively impacted. It also says: "KD deal is less complicated now"

I think it's a bigger stretch to believe their outlook on Ayton has changed at all at this point. I've seen nothing from him or the Suns training together this summer. I understand part of that is the nature of his RFA status, but the only thing that's changed is the Suns agreeing to pay him what one (lowly) team was willing to. There's also still plenty of discourse leftover from the second round collapse to work through.

Ya if we don’t get KD, the Ayton story will be front and center all year. Mikal has called him his best friend, so I definitely don’t think it’s an unfixable situation, but definitely some stuff we’ll need to work through.

I think we’re just saying everything isn’t all resolved. I wasn’t calling for a trade, just that I think there’s stuff that will need to be worked out. I think there’s gonna be some tension between Ayton and others in the organization.

Most of my posts about roster management are through what I perceive to be the Suns (Jones/Monty) intentions. Pointing out the lingering issues isn't being an Ayton hater, it's living in reality.

I think you're wrong about that. Unless you mean anybody that doesn't think he's perfect. You probably think I'm a Ayton hater for example but I'm not. Do I want him to take his craft seriously and get a minimum of eight hours of sleep a night, be more aggressive, be more consistent, and draw more fouls? Yes. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a lot of what he brings to the team or like him as a person.
