Well, Toronto came close to beating the Warriors but Steph came through in the clutch (44 points) and the Raptors missed some key free throws down the stretch.

Holy crap. The Heat are 1st in the East after beating the Cavs (handily) tonight. Also very interesting: Pacers are in 4th, Hornets in 6th. East in general very strong records 11-deep.
Out West, well, there's the Warriors at 21-0, the Spurs at 17-4, ... and everybody else. The Thunder are third at a distant 11-8. Our Suns are 11th at 8-12, not far out of the playoff picture, but also not far from the bottom of the standings.

James didn't play last night. The Cavs have only won 3 games without James since he re-signed.

Detroit leads the Lakers by 28 in the second half as Kobe has shot 2 for 14.
But hell, let's make him an All-Star 'cause she's such a swell guy!

...I'm assuming that Jordan's last year with the Wizards was much better than what Kobe is doing now?
IIRC, Vince Carter was a bit miffed giving up his spot for Jordan in the 2003 All-Star game.

Vince was a bit miffed because he was the one who got the votes. They were peer-pressuring him into letting Jordan start when he didn't get the votes for it. This year Kobe will probably be elected to start by the fans, so it's a little different.Charlie Smithy! wrote:...I'm assuming that Jordan's last year with the Wizards was much better than what Kobe is doing now?

As for Jordan's last years, I saw him play several games during his 2 years as a Wizard: one in person and several on TV. His play was miles apart from what we're seeing from Kobe right now. He was not *quite* as effective, but he shot around 44-45% FG I believe and still got himself around 22-24 points a game. He was a little ball-hoggy, but not nearly as much as Kobe has been. And he didn't brick / airball nearly so many shots. Overall he absolutely made a positive contribution to the team during those two years. I think you can make a strong argument that Kobe is actively hurting the Lakers' success this year.
To be fair, even though those were Jordan's last years, he had way fewer total years and miles on him than Kobe has now, due to having a full college career and also missing 2 years in 1994-95 and another couple of years after '98. So it's a bit of apples-and-oranges. But Jordan was absolutely better as a Wizard than Kobe is now.

Gulp. Doesn't seem right at all.

I don't know if the Colangelo situation was discussed in another thread. I read that this move was lobbied and pressured for by other NBA owners because the Sixers are such a buzzkill on attendance and overall revenue.
This is suddenly very very interesting.
