The 4th was great. Players playing defense and going at the refs.
Maybe make the entire 2nd half like that. Would that work?

I must confess that I turned off the game at halftime. It sounds like I judged it too soon and should have given the new format a chance. My bad.

I hate singers who sing the National Anthem and turn it into a vocal gymnastics competition. I love ya Chaka Khan but, making up an entirely new melody on the fly that goes all over the place was really annoying.
Yeah, that was horrible.
I immediately went to the internet after her performance and was not surprised to find a ton of comments agreeing with us. She softened the blow from Fergie's horrible all-star performance a couple years ago.
Man what the hell was that pure torture

Booker losing on the last shot like that was the most Suns thing that could've happened and so it did.

Best dunk contest ever! The ending will leave a sour taste in the mouths of many but aside from that I think if you compare the dunks leading up to that I don't think any prior contest would top the level those 2 guys were on.

Chaka Khan yelling the anthem was embarrassing. How washed is she now? Gross

I liked the 4th quarter intensity for sure. Execution, not so much. But I'll take that over the church league atmosphere it usually is. In hindsight having Booker out there in the 4th would have left him pretty gassed for awhile so the silver lining is he still should come back feeling somewhat rested.

Next year's All Star game is in my city of Indianapolis where we have absolutely zero celebrities so it'll be the 2021 NBA All-Star Game hosted by Larry Bird, introductions by Larry Bird, National Anthem sung by Larry Bird.

Can't wait.

Perhaps the best performance of the national anthem at an NBA All-Star game was Marvin Gaye's rendition in 1983 ...

I am so glad I got to watch the AS game delayed. I didn't start playing it until about 10 minutes in. Good thing, because it let me forward through the national anthem. I was excited to see her perform it, then about 10 seconds in I started to fast forward. I swear I hit the 30-second skip button 9 times and she was still "singing." I enjoy Chaka Kahn, but jfc that was bad.

The 3 point contest was fun. Man those two guys were on fire. A single point through both rounds separated them. That is the kind of contest you want to watch.

And you all already talked about the dunk contest. It was a rip off for both guys. You don't just keep going and going and going. If you want to do it right, after they tied the first time, you go one more round, but they get to try and block each other's dunk. :P

Agreed. I fast forwarded it pretty soon after it started.

The slam dunk contest was great as far as talent goes. Hearing the color guys complaining to the judges to stop the contest was embarrassing. The judges weren’t wired to the color guys and none of them were in charge of the contest. You would think there would be someone in charge to make those decisions. Listening to them complain on air was amateur hour.

Obviously acapella isn't her thing. She needs a band behind her.

And thanks for linking that. I needed a palate cleanser after Khan's rendition.

Gotta admit, I would have enjoyed it a lot more if Hield had missed his last shot.

Me too. Not only that, I'd be richer had that happened.

me too, but as a basketball fan winning shots are more fun than losing shots.

I don't like to rip on legends but a cappella isn't her thing. She needs a band.

Ha ha. She didn’t last very long on the show. She was trying to go crazy on the national anthem. She was too reserved in the competition and held back.
