The UofA connection and Amare nostalgia certainly didn't help a lot of people subjectively evaluate Ayton.
that is a good point.
Yep, but there were concerns about his aggressiveness before we picked him. That was never a concern with Amare. I do wonder if Ayton was on PEDs while in college and that's what got him in trouble last season too. I'm afraid he might need chemical intervention for his aggressiveness. He has been quite passive this season.
We used to have plenty of concerns around Amare's aggression on the other side of the court. Remember his "i can't get a lot of rebounds because I hae a 32" waist" comment?
They are really similar when it comes to body type, being immature, and not being able to believe anything they say when talking to the media. I just wish Ayton had more of a chip on his shoulder. C'est la vie.

That's fair. DA is a better defender than Amare ever was.

I always preferred Luka but I could accept selecting Ayton for roster fit. I also didn't expect the gap between them to be this large three years later and that Ayton would show things that made him more similar to AD or KAT than Myles Turner.
I preferred Luka at the time, but only slightly. I remember actually being a little bummed we got the top pick that year, and would have loved #2 instead just to make the choice easier. I didn't expect Luka to become this good, this quickly, but Ayton still has so much potential so hopefully it won't be an MJ/Bowie type miss.
I bet we would have taken Bagley with the #2 if Ayton went first.
Don't even!

I think I even saw that somewhere - that Doncic was third on their board.
Bagley had pretty much everything Ayton did as a prospect - local ties, big man, productive in college.
I think we also know from the Tatum pre-draft stories and partially from the Ayton pick post-mortem that they were looking for someone they didn't view as redundant to Booker.

yeah I know I just don't want to think about it.
So if we were 3rd in 2017, do we take Tatum or would we still have gone with Josh?

I’m excited about Cam Johnson. He actually looks like more than just a shooter and has already bulked up some. Still kind of thin but the muscle he has added is noticeable. And damn his stroke is sweet.
By win shares, Devin Booker has been our worst offensive player this year. Like 15th on the team. (Cam Johnson is first). However, Booker has also been the best defensive player on the team(Tied with Bridges and Ayton).

I kind of expected that this might happen. With Paul operating so much in the mid range just like he does. I think it will take some ironing out but in a month or so Book will find his way.
It’s kinda funny, we look pretty good(especially last night) and neither Book or Paul are playing that well. Paul has got the offense clicking, but his own shot hasn’t shown up yet. He’s like 40% from the field and under 30% from 3. Booker has had moments where he was cooking, but only for about a quarter at a time. Will be interesting to see what we look like when those guys get going.
We look a legitimate 8 deep, maybe 9. Cam Payne looks like he’s solidified that 8th spot and Galloway feels like a pretty reliable 9th man for 10 minutes a game.
