I was just thinking of all the different versions of the National Anthem sung at sporting events and all the FU versions of it and thought about which version was actually my favorite and came up with Whitney Houston at the Super Bowl at the start of the Gulf War. The country was totally united and she gave one of the most memorable performances ever. They wanted her to lip sync and she refused and said she only sings live. She was capable of all kinds of vocal gymnastics but, stayed mostly with the melody and used dynamics. The orchestra did all the gymnastics. The arrangement was spectacular. They reharmonized the chords and it was beautiful. This is my all time favorite National Anthem.
