That sucks but still think there’s a good chance we’ll use them both at the trade deadline

The roster stands at 15 standard contracts and 1 two-way contract (Saben), so they'd have to make room for anyone they trade for. (I'm guessing Wainright would be on the bubble)

Ya only 14 guaranteed contracts…I’ll be surprised if Ish is on the team all year.

Sucks seeing Payne go. He was a fun player when healthy and a great comeback story when he signed with us in the bubble. Just couldn't stay healthy and was up and down coming off the bench. Weird how Vogel kept talking him up only to see us trade him. Not sure I completely trust Goodwin as a main backup ballhandler but we'll see if we add anyone else. In the meantime, we know Book, KD and Beal will be the primary ballhandlers.

We'll see what Bol brings.

Feels like they are still cooking something.

Hmm. Suns must really like Goodwin. I'm surprised they cast aside Payne so eagerly when we don't have a lot of PGs on the roster. I hope Goodwin is ready for major minutes.

Ayton for Turner and McConnell makes a lot of sense

Also for those who think we’re not trading Ayton because Vogel keeps talking him up…

Lol. Completely different scenario. In fact, it makes it even more definite they aren’t trading DA. They’ve already traded away two point guards he liked—Paul and Payne.

This makes me feel like we are trying to trade Payne to a team that will take his whole salary and maybe gives us a couple 2nd round picks back.

Maybe Spurs? Not sure which teams still have cap space right now

Use Bol Bol to fill his roster spot and try to trade our TPE with our newly acquired 2nd round picks.
I wasn’t far off.

Once Gambo was hyping Goodwin as the main back up pg, it felt like they were gonna trade Payne away for salary dump.
I beat you to it, though ;)

I think Payne will be traded just for draft capital and salary savings, and we'll use the open roster spot on Bol Bol.

I don’t understand your logic there, but we’ll see. Not saying it means they will trade him, but I definitely don’t subscribe to the idea that they won’t.

This is a terrible trade that will likely end up hurting us. Reminds me too much of Sarver—trying to save money around the edges. Gambo’s excuse is not good enough—if we have injuries, we’re going to need someone like him. And obviously we could have easily opened up the spot for Bol by waiving Ish.

Terrible trade is a stretch…Payne hasn’t been very good for the last couple years. It was definitely trying to save money, but his skill set isn’t as important anymore. It seems they like Goodwin better…and I still don’t think they are done, so we’ll see who else is on the roster come training camp. Can’t evaluate individual moves in a vacuum.

Good trade. Give Cam a chance to earn another contract.
