Durant - obvious, but zero chance of happening

Curry - another obvious but zero chance guy

Hayward - I'd entertain the idea, he's only 26, but almost zero chance he comes here

Griffin - probably a bad idea, has an injury history, he's 28 and losing athleticism, probably just gets in the way of Chriss and bender, but he did list Phoenix as 2nd on his Mount Rushmore of NBA cities. He'd provide scoring and advanced playmaking from the 4 but is a win now move and don't think booker/Jackson/Chriss/Bender are ready for that. Probably a year or two early to make this kind of splash.

Otto Porter - Restricted and Washington probably matches. Just gets in jacksons way and I think Jackson is a better prospect, although is young and could maybe defend the 4.

Side note: do we want to talk free agency in here or create a new thread?

None of the available FA's tickle my fancy.

We're not going to be players this year and there's no reason to be. Getting a guy like Millsap or pursuing Hayward's a waste of time. Give the young guys minutes out there with Bledsoe and Tyson, let them learn and get better with game experience. I think we need a backup big and maybe a backup SG but no one who's going to impact minutes. Biggest question mark will be Len. If we lose him, we need to add depth. I don't love the idea of only having Williams on the bench because I think he's limited and there's no substitute for height. My list would be:

SG - Alan Anderson, CJ Miles, Anthony Morros
C - Lavoy Allen, Tiago Splitter

Dunno if this site is perfectly accurate, but here's a list of 2017 free agents:

Man, I'm looking at the list and I just don't see a lot on there that looks interesting for us. I don't want to sign a bunch of vets who just clog our roster and cap, and get in the way of our young guys' much-needed playing time.

I wouldn't mind bringing back Gerald Green as a bench microwave SG.

David West might be a good locker room vet.

Beno Udrih as a bench PG if Ulis is out hurt?

Can Thabo Sefolosha still play D?

Can Anthony Morrow still shoot 3s?

...

I don't like most of these names at all. Maybe this is a good summer to mostly sit out free agency.

If that is the list, bring back Barbs.

I don't think we need anyone.

Bledsoe, Booker, Ulis, Knight, Reed at G
Chriss, Jackson, Warren, Dudley, Jones Jr, Peters at F
Chandler, Bender, Williams as C

That's 14. Add price if you want, barbosa if he's fine not playing, maybe a C that is also fine not playing and maybe some undrafted FA for the new two way contracts.

I've seen a lot of people list Bender at C, he would have to add so much strength this summer for that, I just cant see it yet. Chriss makes more sense there for me.

This. All I want from free agency is veteran leadership off the bench.

And please remember that we max out at 15 players. Bolded players are FA or have non-guaranteed contracts, if I'm not mistaken.
  1. Bledsoe
  2. Ulis
  3. Knight
  4. Booker
  5. Barbosa
  6. Reed
  7. Warren
  8. Jackson
  9. Jones Jr
  10. Chriss
  11. Bender
  12. Dudley
  13. Peters
  14. Chandler
  15. Len
  16. Williams

That's fine, I think his long term future is at C though. Just listing him there because Chriss will start at F and it makes sense to list him there. Listing Bender at C just makes the depth chart look more balanced.

I'm with you. We don't want veterans coming in and taking playing time. Let's grow this young core with Bledsoe and Chandler.

I would not mind doing something like trading Bledsoe for future picks and signing Chris Paul. I know he is totally out of sync with our age group, but he would make this a playoff team immediately and really jump start the progression of the team. We can replace him later as the team matures.

Just an outside the box thought.

Not interested in any FAs unless we consolidate assets for someone like KP. If we're sticking with the youth movement the stick with the youth movement.

I agree. We may one day play him as a stretch 5, but he's not a natural fit there yet except maybe when the other team goes smallball.

There is no way Chris Paul doesn't re-sign with the Clippers. He literally lobbied for changes to the current CBA so that he could do so at very high salary. The difference in pay is immense.
