Book Richardson from U of A among the coaches caught up in corruption charges. Other universities involved include Oklahoma State, Auburn and Louisville. This is strike number 3 for Pitino. I can't see a scenario where he holds on to his job. As far as Sean Miller goes, well I'm not sure. I think there's a chance someone currently on the team took money. There's speculation that it was Ayton but not enough details at present. One of them is definitely Jahvon Quinerly who gave a verbal commitment for this year's recruiting class. That obviously won't be happening now and the kid may not even be able to retain his eligibility. This has been an open secret for years. Hell, Duke was caught giving Corey Maggette money 18 years ago and nothing happened to them. It seems to me the NCAA hasn't been concerned with stopping it at all.

Has anybody figured out what the goal was with the giving of this bribe money? Were they trying to get certain players to come to U of A? Were they trying to get U of A to switch to being an Adidas school? etc.

Are you sure that Duke gave money? They were never charged and never even slapped on the wrist. I read it was Maggette's AAU Club coach that did it. Are you sure you're pointing fingers at the right party?

Looks like shoe companies have been trying to direct players to "their schools" and using assistant coaches in the process. Pitino is claiming that this is a fraud perpetrated on the schools by the shoe companies. Not feeling sorry for Pitino, but I am open to seeing whether the shoe companies are damaging the schools.

The whole thought that coaches receive money from shoe companies to have their programs use their products and now we find out that shoe companies (may) have been paying kids to go to schools that wear their shoes stinks to high heaven.

Its conceivable that the assistant coaches were contacted directly. I am not sure how any of this benefits the school programs. It benefits shoe companies, financial planners and other companies who wanted the business. I am sure more will come out.

It looks like that may have happened in one of the instances, but it was mostly about directing players to particular agents etc. To me, it looks like the assistant coaches were in this to benefit personally financially. I have no particular fondness for these school, I am just trying to understand what seems to have actually happened.

I think there's a chance someone currently on the team took money.

On the conservative side, I think every player with NBA first round potential is getting money from someone tied to a program.

On the extreme side, I think nearly every scholarship player on most Power 5 conference teams is getting some kind of "illegal" kickback.

I'm completely fine with both situations. These kids have been exploited for too long, and it's only getting worse as the TV contracts and endorsement deals continue to increase in value.

A good friend of mine (UA alum) heard this Book guy openly talking about giving money to players and their families a while back. Nothing egregious in terms of dollar amount, but I guess Book didn't seem to be very secretive about it at that time.

I guess we know why he got caught. Supposedly this is not Book Richardson's first brush with this. He had left the program for a while because of something they were trying to keep hush hush. Anyway, all I'm wondering atm is if the program is going to get sanctioned and if we'll lose Miller or not.
