As a basketball fan that is so depressing. NFL action is so fast that injuries are always shown on replay with the commentator giving a heads up so I never watch. The fact the camera man switched to him because his head was in his hands then for everyone to see and realise why has freaked me out man. Just don't expect to see that in hoops

What a terrible thing to happen in the opening game of the season.

Joe Theisman, Paul George, Shaun Livingston, Kevin Ware, Gordon Hayward.
Re: Around the League: Week 1 10/17-10/22
Those icky leg break injuries are always so crazy to look at. The way the dude's foot just hangs there limply at an odd angle like that. It really drives home that our bodies are mostly just squishy bags of skin and blood without those bones to hold us to a given form. The fact that a human body (with help) can repair itself back from an injury like that, back to the point that the person can not only walk again but maybe even be a pro athlete again, is mind blowing.
Hayward is probably out of playing for 2 full seasons now, though. Poor guy.

And the injury has clearly taken the wind out of Boston's sails. The whole team is in shock. They've barely scored anything since Gordon went out, down now 36-25.

So so sad. Never seems to happen to the assholes. Seems like a good kid. Glad he got his contract at least.
Re: Around the League: Week 1 10/17-10/22
I didn't see it. Been busy with the kids tonight. I see someone invoking Theisman and Livingston. It was that bad? 2 full seasons? I will say if any team is built to withstand an injury it's the Celtics. They have a ton of youth & guys that can step into a more prominent role. Brown and Morris can more than hold down the SF position. Still, what an awful thing to have happn in the opening night game on prime time television. Ainge & Silver must both be swallowing Xanax by the handful right now.

He was really playing well, too. It seemed like Boston was going to have a special yea.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:Poor guy. You really feel it in the arena. Everybody just in shock, quiet as a tomb. What a blow to him when he was just starting the next part of his career with a new team. I feel for the guy. And what a blow to that team as a whole.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you can actually hear it snap on that video.
Tough break (terrible joke), but this kind of injury is way better than a soft tissue injury, such as a ligament or muscle. It'll take some time, but he should be able to reach a high level again if he's just broken the leg bone(s).

I'm no medical expert but doesn't the way his ankle was turned look like ligament damage?Flagrant Fowl wrote:I'm not entirely sure, but I think you can actually hear it snap on that video.

You would assume there has to be some soft tissue damage in there somewhere.
At the very least it's season-ending.

Me neither, but it looked like it was above his ankle to me.Hermen wrote:I'm no medical expert but doesn't the way his ankle was turned look like ligament damage?Flagrant Fowl wrote:I'm not entirely sure, but I think you can actually hear it snap on that video.

Certainly. I'd be surprised if he's ready for the opener next season, but maybe he can be back by Thanksgiving or Christmas next year. The Bobster wrote:You would assume there has to be some soft tissue damage in there somewhere.

His left ankle was turned 90 degrees to the left. It was reported that I think Irving said the re-set it on the court which is a good thing and ESPN had a doctor on saying if it's just a fracture or something (relatively) simple, he can begin rehabbing in 6-8 weeks and maybe be back in 4 months.

LeBron's jersey was ripped down the center of the back - which leads to some serious questions about the quality of these Nike jerseys.

That isn't the first jersey to bite it this year in the same fashion. Could be trouble for Nike if this continues to happen. The Bobster wrote:LeBron's jersey was ripped down the center of the back - which leads to some serious questions about the quality of these Nike jerseys.

How so? It's not like they can't just replace the jersey immediately. The NBA isn't going to give the money back to Nike for their licensing contract, so...?carey wrote:That isn't the first jersey to bite it this year in the same fashion.
