I haven't devoted a lot of thought to that idea, but my initial reaction is that you want to know what player you drafted before using FA to fill in the rest of the holes in your roster. It'd be a shame if teams made big FA signings only to then have it mess up their draft, or vice versa.

I want my rookie as soon as possible so he has all summer to get ready for the season.

Good points. But if I have done my FA/trades before the draft, I know what needs I still have to fix so the guy I take probably has more chances of getting real playing time.

I guess the draft (and the trades around it) is a greater unknown for the teams than the free agency so maybe it's better to do it sooner. Don't feel strongly about it either way though.

But everybody always says not to draft for position. You're supposed to draft BPA and let the cards fall where they may. Having FA before draft would encourage lots of positional drafting ("We can't take Lonzo! We just signed Rajon Rondo to that great FA deal!") which I think would be bad.

Meanwhile we are at pick 5 according to the standings right now, after our loss and a Memphis win. It is super tight, with just 5.5 wins between pick 1 and 10.

I've never rooted for Memphis like this before.

Next week we have games against Dallas and Memphis. It would be just fantastic if we could find a way to lose those!

I don't think we have to look very hard

There will be a lot of games worth double with teams around us in the standings from here on out. It will be fascinating to see how teams approach those games (resting "sore" players etc).

This is crazy:

Mavs completely handed the Clippers the game in the last 2 minutes today. It was almost as if they were trying to throw the game.

I prefer the simulations that play out the rest of the schedule -

https://www.basketball-reference.com/fr ... _prob.html
https://www.basketball-reference.com/fr ... draft.html

Basketball-Reference.com has the Kings and Suns in a dead heat for the best odds for the top pick.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/20 ... id=rrpromo

FiveThirtyEight.com has the Hawks with the best chance (25-57) and the Suns and Kings right behind them (26-56).

Man it should would be nice to have two picks in the top 10 this year instead of that one dude who is now sitting on the end of the bench.

Water under the bridge. I am not going to give it another thought.

It's really hard not to, especially in this draft. Such a dumb trade.

After the loss to the Lakers, both Basketball-Reference.com and FiveThirtyEight.com both project the Suns to finish 25-57 and with the best chance of having the first pick in the draft. BR.com has Miami's pick landing at 16 and 538.com has them at 17-19. Both projections have Milwaukee keeping their pick.

Lakers pick looks like it will probably be 10/11. Obviously the trade still sucks, but it lessens the sting a little that we didn't miss out on a top 5 pick.
