Suns Coach 2018-19

Discussion of the league and of our favorite team.

So who do you want to see as a coach in 2018-19 (and beyond)?

Grass isn't always greener: Triano--What more could you ask with the group of guys we had this year and the development we have seen?

Somebody who can do all of that stuff, knows how to manage assistant coaches, and has high expectations about the details of how basketball is played.
And maybe we can get monkeys to fly out of your butt while we're at it. 8-) :P Heh, just sayin'. That's asking for a lot, but by all means, let's get the next Brad Stevens.

Lord Sarver, the Duke of Daft, won't want anybody smarter or with more gravitas to upstage him. Plus, history shows he won't pay for a quality coaching.

College coaches, the successful ones at major programs, are used to being the kings of their domains.
Many would not know how to react with mature NBA players with big egos. For every larry Brown, there are 10 Mike Montgomerys.

Triano may be lacking, but he has some good ideas. I would go one more year with him as a "bridge" coach until/if the franchise begins to re-ignite again.

I would not mind giving Blatt another chance. Or trying to pry Messina from the Spurs. Just adding new names to the list.

How bad are the Suns this year?

Offensively, they are 29th (of 30) in points scored per possession.
Defensively, they are 30th in points allowed per possession.
This will be their 8th straight season out of the playoffs. (more times out of the playoffs than the previous 35 seasons combined (7).
They have had one winning season in the last 8.
They have not had an All-Star since 2012.

There will be no quick fix. Free agents aren't going to be interested in coming here. Triano isn't the answer as coach, and whoever replaces him is going to take time to get the team turned around. They are 65-157 (.293) over the past three seasons, the worst stretch in franchise history.

And all of this starts at the top of the organization with Sarver.

I wish I could see who voted for what. I am really surprised to see so many people going with NBA coach retread but only a couple suggested names.

Maybe people like the "playoff wins" part. Not too many guys with playoff wins who are out of work, though.

Exactly. That's why I want names of who these voters are thinking about when they choose that. To be honest, I didn't have a good option when I came up with the list, so I chose the last one.

I really don’t have names. I know I don’t want Triano, Kidd or Fiz. But I have no solutions.

I was one of the 2 shake it up votes, but I'm not super concerned where the coach comes from

I haven't voted yet because I don't know which one to choose.

Just go turn off word filtering in your settings. The site is much better that way.

I would totally turn the filters back on if Mori would set them up to replace banned names with other words that are very similar, but make no sense. He should do the same with common acronyms. ;)

I'm happy to take suggestions.

One of my favorite word-swaps was on the site Fark.com, a wacky/crude news aggregator more popular in the old days. Whenever some idiot would use the "N word" there, it would replace it with something like "brilliant and successful African-American".
