State of the Suns

Post by The Bobster »

Where I see the main characters as the season starts to wind down -

Robert Sarver - Not willing to take financial risks, enjoys the limelight, to involved in daily operation, looks for inexpensive hires in front office and coaching staff
Ryan McDonough - Came with limited experience and unconventional ideas, hasn't built a very balanced roster, overpaid for some (Knight, Chandler, Dudley), sold low on others (Thomas, Bledsoe)

Earl Watson - Was "player's coach" with limited experience, may have inhibited development of some players (Len, Chriss, Bender), very unconventional, inexpensive hire, probably more suited for college
Jay Triano - More conventional, not defensive-minded, may be career assistant type, team hasn't shown improvement under his leadership, another inexpensive hire

Tyson Chandler (35) - Good rebounder and position defender, not very mobile, very limited offensively
Jared Dudley (32) - Good passer, smart player, poorly conditioned, days as useful player are numbered (or past)
Troy Daniels (26) - Great range, complimentary scorer at best, poor defender, may have value to contender
Brandon Knight (26) - Erratic playmaker, looking to rebound from terrible season and knee injury, untradable contract
Alan Williams (24) - Limited athletically, somewhat under-sized, great rebounder and good offensively around the basket
Alex Len (24) - Having his best year but isn't in the team plans, probably will look to elsewhere anyway
T.J. Warren (24) - Good scorer, limiting range, needs to continue to improve all-around game
Elfrid Payton (23) - Under-valued, good rebounder and passer, can score, questionable defender, pricetag is the real issue
Tyler Ulis (22) - Much better in rookie year, shooting must improve, defensive liability
Devin Booker (21) - Terrific volume scorer, becoming more efficient, defense still an issue
Josh Jackson (21) - Can get to basket and score, shooting needs work, needs to get stronger, sometimes out of control
Marquisse Chriss (20) - Has taken a step backward, lacks maturity, has physical skills, questionable basketball IQ
Dragan Bender (20) - Good perimeter shot and defender, needs to be aggressive offensively and to rebound better
