Alan Williams debut was 9 pts 7 rebounds with a +/- of -16. He's going to fit right in to what the "pro" team is doing.

Bullshit. We would still be playing Morris, Knight, and Bledsoe if those guys hadn't forced our hands via trade demands and injuries. Let's not pretend we were smart enough to do this on purpose. The Suns did this with eyes wide open. They needed to try to develop their new core with playing time, unencumbered by demanding vets. And they needed to lose enough games to draft that next superstar. So they shipped out any big-minute veterans and rolled out the ball to see what would happen.

Exactly. Don't lie to us by saying this was part of the plan. Re: Suns News: Week 23 3/19-3/25
I mean, this was clearly the plan over the last few years. The moment we drafted Bender and Chriss the FO knew we were going to be one of the worst teams in the league for the next few years. And that is what they wanted. We drafted two raw prospects as a commitment to tanking and rebuilding. The product you are seeing right now was 100% intentional. They definitely did this with eyes wide open. The last time we actually tried to put a competitive team on the court was the start of the 15/16 season. All the move leading to that should certainly be looked at as a massive fuck up. But the previous two seasons should only be judged by the product on the court over the next five years. That is what all this has been building to. That's why it doesn't matter at all that we give up a billion points to the Warriors bench or whatever. There is no point worrying about things like that at all.Indy wrote:Exactly. Don't lie to us by saying this was part of the plan. Re: Suns News: Week 23 3/19-3/25
Wait, so coming into the season they 100% intended to fire their coach by game 4, and trade their best vet? I didn't read that in their season preview. And as for Chriss, they were hailing him as being on the all-rookie team and how much improved he would be this season. They were not saying he was a mess of raw talent that will take years to figure out.n4th4n wrote:I mean, this was clearly the plan over the last few years. Re: Suns News: Week 23 3/19-3/25
No, definitely not. But they intended on being one of the worst teams in the league. I have no explanation for the Watson situation. His tenure was a disaster and the fact that they didn't even interview other candidates is inexcusable. The way the managed Bledsoe was a fuck up too. They should have traded him in the off seasons to maximize his value. Honestly, I think the reason they didn't was largely tied to optics. They didn't want to appear to be running their own version of the process even while they were doing just that.Indy wrote:Wait, so coming into the season they 100% intended to fire their coach by game 4, and trade their best vet? As for Chriss... I mean ya. Teams irrationally hype their own prospects all the time. They knew we were going into a dark season and they wanted to give people a reason to feel excited and get invested. That is just basic NBA optics and marketing.
Re: Suns News: Week 23 3/19-3/25
I wonder if they always viewed Watson as a stop gap. He was here to motivate the young guys and develop a strong locker room atmosphere. Supposedly, We kept him after his interim stint because the players wanted him. It was obvious after a few games this year that he had lost the ability to motivate the young guys and his basketball strategy was lacking. So we cut ties.
Our strategy was never to be the worst team possible or we would have obviously kept Watson. It was to focus on youth development and not be concerned about how many games we won.

Re: Suns News: Week 23 3/19-3/25
Yeah, you can't tell me that this summer, McD and Sarver were saying, we are going to be a bottom 3 team this year. No way were they thinking that. I think they expected us to get 15-20 games into the season, assess if we had an outside shot at making the playoffs, and decide what to do from there. If we did, see what chips we can cash in to push us to an 8th seed. If not, see what chips we can sell and go for a high pick.

Re: Suns News: Week 23 3/19-3/25
I think they expected to have a 30-win team on their hands again this year. I don't think they expected the bottom to drop out and for the team to be the worst since the expansion year.
As for Watson, they may have been differing opinions among the decision-makers in the front office because they sure abandoned ship on him pretty quickly (and with good reason).
All the signs were there last year - the problem with this team is that they're reactive rather than proactive when they make a decision. They didn't trade Bledsoe soon enough. The didn't dismiss Watson soon enough (although they really screwed that up when they didn't interviews). The problems with players like the Morris twins should have been dealt with sooner.
This team has been the textbook in how to mismanage a franchise. They haven't sold high on players, they haven't developed their young players, they've made poor front office and coaching hires, bad trades, bad free agent signings and bad draft choices. There have been a few good moves prinkled among the bad ones, but not nearly enough.
Ultimately this shitshow starts at the top with Robert Sarver, who involved himself too much and ran the franchise like they were contenders when they should have been rebuilding.

We were projected as one of the worst teams in the league by every single betting market in existence. It's not a surprise that were are this bad. There is no way the FO didn't know this.
