Around the League: Week 26 4/11 - 4/17
Re: Around the League: Week 26 4/11 - 4/17
Are the Suns the second worst franchise after Sacramento? Apparently they fired a bunch of people in the front office today including their PA who is beloved by the Sacramento community.

They're combining with the Suns, haven't you heard? Those were no essential personal...carey wrote:Are the Suns the second worst franchise after Sacramento? Apparently they fired a bunch of people in the front office today including their PA who is beloved by the Sacramento community.

Man, the Kings situation sucks for fans. I grew up near there, and there were a ton of Sacramento fans all around California. Folks who wanted good local hoops, but didn't want to root for the Lakers.
It feel like this ownership group is getting ready to move the team.

Didn't they just get a new arena?O_Gardino wrote:Man, the Kings situation sucks for fans. I grew up near there, and there were a ton of Sacramento fans all around California. Folks who wanted good local hoops, but didn't want to root for the Lakers.

Yes, but ownership didn't really want it. The city fought hard to be able to build that thing. Ownership was probably thinking, "Crap! Now, we have to stick around for the next 20 years. Would have loved to move to Seattle."O_Gardino wrote:Yes, but ownership didn't really want it. I figured it would be the Clippers who would move to Seattle, with Ballmer owning the team and all.

It's off topic, but do ya'll think the NBA would really put a franchise in Las Vegas?

I think they have to be more concerned with the optics of it than the other major sports considering the Tim Donaghy scandal. That said, the Vegas Knights are already proving you can have a successful franchise there. I'd still give Seattle a team first if expansion were on the table.O_Gardino wrote:It's off topic, but do ya'll think the NBA would really put a franchise in Las Vegas?

Was going to make the same question.O_Gardino wrote:It's off topic, but do ya'll think the NBA would really put a franchise in Las Vegas?
From an overseas fan, I can't imagine why they haven't done it yet. The Las Vegas Kings rolls off the tongue. Would make for an awesome card themed uniform.
Move the Kings there and give Seattle a team. Send MIN and MEM to the east.

I don't think it would be a problem to have a franchise in Las Vegas. It's pretty easy to gamble anywhere nowadays; there are casinos within driving distance from Phoenix, LA, and many other major cities. And there's a ton of online gambling and fantasy sports and other ways to throw money away if people want to do it. I do think they should put a team in Seattle before adding a team to Vegas, though. (I'd be fine with both.) I think the league has enough talent to support 32 teams, personally.

Las Vegas is going to have a WNBA team this season (the Aces, who were the former San Antonio Stars who were the former Utah Starzzzzzzzzz). I think they'll get a lot of support since that city is really starving for a pro basketball team. Maybe that will help get a NBA team there.

The Milwaukee Bucks plan to interview San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon for the franchise's head-coaching vacancy, league sources told ESPN on Friday.
I do find it odd that more than one Spurs assistant is interviewing for the same job.Hammon, 41, is the fourth Spurs assistant to interview for head-coaching openings this spring. Messina, James Borrego and Ime Udoka have interviewed for several openings. Borrego will interview next week, league sources said.

Is Swingy still actively posting on other any Suns/NBA forums? Hope the dude is doing well.
Re: Around the League: Week 26 4/11 - 4/17
I wish the dude well too, but if he comes back here it’s probably not going to go well. It never does.

That would chop the value of his team in half, and he'd probably have to pay a relocation fee on top of that.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:I figured it would be the Clippers who would move to Seattle, with Ballmer owning the team and all.
