An interesting deep dive into all things Koko on twitter by David Nash. If at all interested in the new hire this is a must read.

So, now that Kokoskov is free, any guesses when he'll come to Phoenix to get started? My hunch would be a Monday press conference. Even though that's not much of a break after the Jazz season ended, I get the impression that he's excited to get going.

I'd give the guy a week off at least to rest. I'm sure he is eager, but he's also a Euro. They take like 30 weeks off a year. :-)

He can start his 30 weeks off in October like his new team has for the past few years!

I don't think they get any time off in the eastern block countries. Work for the mother country!

After watching The Americans, I'm a little worried that he's infiltrating our basketball and country. Seeing this pic tipped me off:

I look forward to getting definitive word on the pronunciation of his name.

Any Monty Python references is good with me. I have a feeling that the Americanized way is without the "sh" sound but the real way is with. He'd just prefer you don't call him KoKo. Or if you want to go way pre-Monty Python, you can call him anything but late for dinner. <\rim shot>

A definitive explanation of how to pronounce Igor Kokoskov’s name:

http://arizonasports.com/story/1528533/ ... skov-name/

After listening to Igor himself pronounce it, I still don't think they have it exactly right. Yes, we were right about the "sh" sound for the second sylable but for the first sylable, I'm hearing ko as in coco.

So not kuh-KOSH-kov but koe-KOSH-kov (as in hoe). Cap, would you agree?

Igor Kokoskov is ready to cook with Suns GM McDonough’s ingredients

https://arizonasports.com/story/1528354 ... gredients/
“I think it’s a good day for (the) Phoenix Suns,” Kokoskov said. “Good day in a way that maybe in a year from now, three years or five years from now, then you can say this was a special day.”

“My job as a coach is to adjust to what we have,” he said. “So, (the) ingredients (are) coming from Ryan and I’ve gotta cook for us.”

“I was fortunate enough to be with good teams and not so successful teams, which you learn a lot from the games and the times when you struggle,” he said.

“We (played) slow in Detroit (and won) a championship. We (played) fast with Steve Nash here. So just your ability to adjust to the new situation helps you to get it done.”

“There is no young or old. There is just good or bad teams,” he said. “We have to work hard to get better.

“We’ll never hide behind it and try to be younger and use it as (an) excuse. We’ll try to win the game in going younger and even relying on upcoming draft picks.”

Kokoskov makes history, lands ‘dream job’ by returning home to coach Suns

http://arizonasports.com/story/1528455/ ... enix-suns/
Kokoskov was an assistant under then-head coach Alvin Gentry the last time the Suns reached the playoffs, which culminated in an appearance in the 2010 Western Conference Finals. It was a team led by Steve Nash, Amar’e Stoudemire and Grant Hill.

“We tasted and felt that, what is being part of a winning team and playing in June and being on TV in June. That’s a special moment and I think we all deserve that,” Kokoskov said. “I think the city of Phoenix deserves that. I think the fans who love basketball deserve that. And we’ll give our best to bring this organization and this team to that path … that’s going to be my goal.”
