You kind of have to be a surprise to get COTY votes. The consistently awesome don’t get consideration for being their consistently awesome selves. I don’t know why it works that way.
Isn't this the "new" NBCA award where the coaches give out their own COTY award? Did this replace the NBA COTY? Or is this just their own thing?

Pau Gasol writes for The Players Tribune about Becky Hammon being an NBA head coach:

Good article. There's a Kokoskov coaching the Suns mention in there as well.

That COTY was BS anyway. I get the Raptors had a great season, but I can't see an argument over Stevens (beyond crazy how he didn't get a single vote), Mike D or Pop.

Maybe they told their peers that they liked long term their current gigs, so please go jinx someone else

Again, he wasn't named NBA COTY, right? It was just NBAC COTY.

I would be very surprised if Ujiri's job is in danger, even if this Raptors team doesn't make the finals.

Wouldn't a jury of your peers be the most important coaching award?

Maybe. But their system is just one vote per coach, without any tiered voting (votes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place), and I am not sure if a bunch of managers at a company got together to vote for the best manager, the best one would win. I think taking votes from all the people under both managers, and people from other departments, and people outside the company, might give a better perspective.

By the way, I love random gossip like this. The author mentions that DeMarcus Cousins has unfollowed the Pelicans account on Instagram and uses this to argue that it may hint that he'll leave the team. 2018, everybody! :-)

Cousins is one of 3 interesting big time free agents this year. LeBron, PG-13, and Cousins. All unrestricted, all could make big moves. New Orleans working a sign and trade somewhere would be great. Would Washington do Porter for cousins? That would be great for New Orleans.

I think there's almost a 5% chance Cousins goes back to NO.

Is there any way we could clear enough cap room to make a run at Cousins? Would he be worth what it would cost? Doncic-Booker-Jackson-Bender-Cousins would be really impressive at four positions.

We can clear about 18 million in space, so depends on how much cousins can command. Before the injury he was getting more than that. Not sure now.

We could waive and stretch either Chandler or knight to clear an additional 9ish million.

And why do we want Cousins?
