I was really impressed with Bridges and Okobo. Encouraged by how smooth Bridges's shooting stroke looks. And Okobo did a great job running the offense. He seemed to understand how to leverage the presence of Ayton almost immediately. I hope they'll be a fearsome combo for us.

I seriously still don't understand why we signed Trevor Ariza. Why shouldn't we give all of those minutes to guys like Bridges, Jackson, Reed, Bender, etc.? Why do we need this guy? I really don't get it.
Ariza will play mostly at PF. Also, Ariza is here only a year.
"Ariza will play mostly at PF." - I understand that. But I don't want him to play PF. He is not a power forward. He is a small forward. He will get banged around and won't get enough rebounds or stops at that position. I would much rather have Bender, Chriss, or even Warren playing PF minutes than Ariza.

"Also, Ariza is here only a year." - I understand that. I want him to be here for zero years. "This bad contract for a guy we shouldn't have signed is not bad because it is only one year" makes no sense to me. If he's a bad signing, he's a bad signing. Yes, one year of a bad signing is less bad than multiple years. But it seems like the best thing people can say about Ariza is, "Well at least it's only one year." That isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

I also see people saying he'll mentor our young guys. How? By stealing their minutes? I just don't see why we need him or what he brings us that 3-4 other guys don't already do better. He's a decent shooter and defender, but Bridges looks just as capable of hitting shots and defending for us. Give Bridges those minutes!
Well, you better get over it Marty. He's not going anywhere at least for a year. Get used to it. He's our starting PF.

Obviously can't leave out an Okobo reel 8-)
I said it during the game and happy to actually watch it over properly....
we ran a nice inbound play and that is still one of my favourite highlights of the game from a Igor perspective :)

Okobo looked great out there but what was he doing at 1:15? Reminded me of that Harden spoof video.

Here is the video in case anyone hasn't seen it.

The ball fake and floater? Nothing wrong with that. Funny you should mention Harden as I had heard some comps between the two. Maybe he's a student of his game.

No the play after that when he catches it up top. Just watch that pivot foot. :)

He threw up the floater to beat the shot clock

Here's Ayton. More effective than the number show, and the numbers weren't bad.

I don't see a Shaq Harrison video, but he deserves one. I thought he was excellent, and moved the ball more than I remember from last season. 9 assists for a guy who isn't considered a pure point guard.

Yeah, that was your garden variety travel. He's already acclimated to the NBA game. :P

What is the new shot clock rule. It only resets to 14 if you retain possession?

Also, it's hilarious that Bender's block went right at Mutombo.

Yeah, 14 seconds after an offensive rebound

They just showed that sequence from shot block to finger wag on the NBA TV summer league promo.

Bridges is the stud I expected him to be. Joe Johnson 2.0.
I don't think he is anything like Joe Johnson. Johnson was strong and had some point guard skills: advanced ball-handling, playmaking passer. And he was more scorer than shooter.

Bridges is a defender and a shooter. Not completely restricted to catching and shooting, but definitely not that effective off the bounce. He lacks strength but knows how to use his elite length to be disruptive.

Reed looked good today but did you guys notice his shot selection? He took and made so many contested jumpers.

He seems like the kind of guy (like an Archie Goodwin or Josh Selby) who is an SL breakout star and that’s about it.
Wow, I didn't see that at all. He looked like a fully competent catch and shoot, potential 3&D role player. I liked what I saw.

Who else is out there you'd rather have signed?
Tony Parker and Anthony Tolliver. Could have used the cap space to facilitate a trade.

So I should just accept that posters are going to complain about it all season long? What else is new. And just because you think it's a bad move, doesn't mean it is.

I don't think it is outlandish to talk about the Ariza trade after literally 1-2 games of summer league where we see the other players vying for the same roster position as Ariza. I watch all of these promising young SFs and swingmen and it makes me think that Ariza isn't super necessary in the rotation. It seems completely relevant and topical to me. And the move just happened; it's not like we are rehashing Dan Majerle for Hot Rod Williams here.
