Joke is going to be on the rest of the league when the Suns start out 15-0. ;)

Maybe Pop will be resting his stars.

In truth, I think every 15 game stretch is going to be tough for the Suns this year. There are going to be a lot of teams better than us.

Dal, MEM, and BRK ought to be wins. We should be better than those teams. If we can steal two more games, that puts us on track for 35ish wins, which is exactly the kind of improvement a lot of us are expecting.

So much of the beginning of the season, I believe, rests on Brandon Knight. If he can come back and be a competent, low-turnover, player I think we could be hovering around the .500 mark after the first 15 games. If not, then, yeah, we probably are only around 5 wins 15 games in.

The other scenario that I could envision is that Okobo is more NBA-ready that expected and he comes out and is a great distributor and a solid 4th or 5th scoring option. I think we could easily be just over .500 in that scenario. Maybe like 9-6 or something.

I hope for your optimism. Unfortunately, I think Okobo is probably a year away, due to youth, inexperience and culture change just trying to get used to living in the US.

As much as I was hoping for the Suns to have a big turnaround this year, the first 15 games are brutal and might put them into a hole to big to climb out of the rest of the year. I hope I'm wrong, but it really would need a surprising start in those first 15 games to make a push to relevance.

Here's my dream:

1. Booker makes THE LEAP. He's been improving every year, but this year he establishes himself as a legit star. I'm talking something like 25/5/7 with .48/.42/.90 splits.

2. Booker has that leap because of all the shooters around him. Ariza hits 36-37%, Bridges and Bender hit 38-39%, even Jackson and Warren trend towards average(30-33%) with Warren hitting the corner 3 at a decent clip.

3. Ayton also has a huge impact and wins ROY, putting up 18/11 and shoots 55% from the field and looks promising on defense(not competely lost)

4. Brandon Knight returns to AASE form, puts up 15/4/4 and shoots 38-39% from 3, and moves the ball and plays in the offense.

Suns go 44-38 and sneak into the 8th seed and win a game against the warriors in round 1

I know this probably sounds stupid, but I don't see the Warriors finishing #1 this season in the West. I don't think it is Houston either. I think it continues to be a conference where everyone in the top 10 grind each other down, and the top 8 feast on the east to get their +42 wins. I am betting teams 5-8 have less than 46 wins this year.

Suns have the hardest schedule in the league - the only team to not play one game against a team with a worse record than theirs from last season. I mean how unfair is that?!

I was thinking about the schedule and had a few thoughts.

(1) The Suns will lose, and lose hard, in the early season.
(2) The long East Coast road trip will determine the direction of the season. Either they'll bond and grow cohesion like the first Hornacek team, or they will just fall apart.
(3) In 2019, the Suns will do one of two things. With the good teams out of the way, the Suns will start cleaning up on the bottom feeders, especially as teams give up on the playoff chase and start tanking. OR the Suns themselves will start tanking.

So, I would think that the Suns win 40-something games or 20-something games. The closest analogy I can see is the late 1990s Mavericks the season before they exploded, where they were losing a lot early but won like 11 of their last 12 games to almost make the playoffs.

On a positive note I think it is a good thing for the Suns to get smacked by a bunch of good teams early as a character builder and a early wake up call. Hopefully it doesn’t destroy their confidence and they use it constructively.

I'd love to agree with this argument, but this team has really struggled the last few years to respond to early wake up calls.

But we've had weak leadership at the top the last few years. I think coach Kokoskov might make a difference here and might adjust better.

I remember coach Hornacek's first year here. Players said they'd run through a brick wall for him. I think that may be the case with the 2018/2019 team under Kokoskov.
