He's saying 'those two are garbage but I can't actually say that. Sorry guys. My bad'.

I haven't heard anything about Melton's contract situation, so I went looking for anything I could find.

This guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about. He basically says that we con only offer him the minimum salary for 2 years unless we make a move to clear out cap space.

A minimum salary two-year guarantee is more than most second-round picks get.

This is older and it's a pretty heartbreaking read, but it's a really good profile on what Anderson went through a few years back. Monty Williams is also a pretty special guy.

Sure, but it looks like Melton was the key prize in this deal and we believe he's first round talent, so we want to be able to hang onto him after these 2 years, right?

According to the article, longer contracts are now the norm. I assume they include team options like Ulis. It may not matter, but as we stand, we cannot offer extra seasons with the team option. He would be a RFA after his second season.
Nearly all of this year’s second-rounders have signed for at least three years, with only a small handful of exceptions, such as Jevon Carter of the Grizzlies and Alize Johnson of the Pacers.

Yeah, meant to mention that. Heartbreaking story. I'm still reading it at work.

I remember when this all went down here in NOLA. Both Williams & Anderson are good people.

Melton could be the long term answer in the backcourt next to Booker. He looks elite defensively and his shot has made some progress working with Drew hanlan, a pretty well known shot coach, who's worked with Tatum, Fultz, and Bamba recently. I potentially see a 13/5/5 guy with 2 steals and a block who can spot up from 3 and play defense at an all-nba level.

Do you guys think he's a better defender and higher upside than Shaq Harrison? I'm curious what you guys think.

Shaq is really good defensively and I haven't seen enough of either at the NBA level to say who's better. Melton is the better prospect though. He's 4ish years younger and much further along as a player than Shaq was 4 years ago.

Sounds like we couldn't eek out more salary cap space for him. Shame.

I don't dislike Melton as a player. But I just don't see why we have kept so many other young guards around, like Canaan and Harrison, if we are just going to turn around and sign Melton and also pursue another PG from Minnesota, and/or Patrick Beverley, etc. You can't play all of these guys. What is the game plan here?

Competition. Making them compete with each other every day and see who comes out on top.

Melton and Okobo are rookies who may not be ready for minutes and might even spend time in the g league. Canaan and Harrison are on non guaranteed contracts and might get cut. Especially if we bring in another vet PG. None of the PG's have proven they can play at the NBA level. If you can't get a proven player, better to have multiple options to pick the best one out of.
