Fer cryin' out loud!
Yeah, he's not all that great and he has a lot of strong takes that are pretty out there, like Marvin Bagley III being the best player in this draft.

Harris will get payed like a big 3 guy though.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:37 pmT.H. grabs rebounds at about the same rate as other stretch 4s. While playing with dominant rebounders in LA and DET, he's at about 16.5%. Previously, he was at about 18.5%.
Warriors - I don't know who's playing PF on that team, so I don't want to count them.
Cavs - They don't have a stretch 4, they have a star at that position. He's an excellent rebounder.
Spurs 2014 - Boris and Tiago Splitter ~16%
Heat 2012 - Bosh was sort of a star on that team, but he grabbed ~17%
Heat 2013 - Bosh was sort of a star on that team, but he grabbed ~20%
Mavs 2011 - Dirk is a star and rebounded well at ~21%
Lakers 2010 - Odom and Gasol ~17%
Lakers 2009 - Odom ~22% and Gasol ~19%
Celtics 2008 - Garnett is a beast ~25%
Spurs 2007 - And now we've gone all the way back to R****t H***y who pretty consistently grabbed ~16%
My piont is that teams only have one dominant rebounder up front. You can win with a 16% guy is he's not in your big 3.

This AZCentral article poses an interesting question about why James Jones would be interested in the position:

Chris Vernon is horrible. I hate his voice, his drawl/twang. He irritates my ears. And more than his voice, I just think he's a blowhard who likes to run his mouth and make hot takes. I often feel that he's completely wrong when he gives his take on a team or situation. Listening to him breathe hot air about the Suns for half an hour on that podcast made me want to throw my phone out the car window. By contrast Kevin O'Connor had reasonable balanced takes on the Suns that seemed to reflect actual understanding of the team and our players and a fair view of the moves we have made over the years.
One thing they brought up that made me sad was the fact that we took two guys in the Bender/Chriss draft and passed up on Sabonis both times. I wanted Sabonis SO BADLY in that draft, and when we traded up for a second 1st round pick, I hoped we'd use it to get him. And he looks like one of that draft's best players now. It seemed really clear to me that he had the pedigree to be a good NBA player, but our FO didn't see it and passed on him not once but twice. That hurts. Sabonis is going to be a productive player for years, which I think was clear at the time, and we could have had him here. His scoring and his rebounding are a lot of what we would want out of Bender or the now-departed Chriss.

He loves Marvin Bagley/Colin Sexton and other guys who play with effort. He's on record saying Bagley is much better than Ayton.
Re: Suns Preseason News 2018
Vernon doesn't strike me as someone who really understands basketball all that much. At least not at the level I'd expect from someone who writes/talks about basketball for a living. He sticks with his gut feeling about teams and players and is pretty stubborn.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:15 pmChris Vernon is horrible. I hate his voice, his drawl/twang. Agreed, and I don't want the guy for that money. I'm just pointing out that it's normal for guys to rebound like that on championship teams.Hermen wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 2:13 amHarris will get payed like a big 3 guy though.O_Gardino wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:37 pmT.H. grabs rebounds at about the same rate as other stretch 4s. Did I hear someone say we can get Tobias Harris and pay him like a BIG3 guy? Sounds like a bargain!
Re: Suns Preseason News 2018
These are the players the Suns could trade for without giving up salary. So a team could cut salary and collect draft assets from the Suns. It is not a recommended list, just the players that are possible.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:18 pmJames Jones just recouped Sarver all of Ryan's owed salary plus some!ShelC wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:16 pmhttps://twitter.com/KeithSmithNBA/status/1050101636885041153

TJ McConnell.
Raymond Felton
Isaiah Thomas (when trade eligible)
Malcolm Brogdon
Spencer Dinwiddie
Elfrid Payton (when he is elibigle to be traded)
Devin Harris
Jose Berea
Frank Mason
Free agents can be signed too. This is important when the teams have to pare down their rosters next week.

Re: Suns Preseason News 2018
Would love to hear what's the price on McConnell, Brogdon and Dinwiddie. I'm positive all three have more value than what you can typically expect out of a pick in the 20s, which is what the MIL pick is proyecting to become. Dinwiddie has 'two second round picks' written all over him, though.

Re: Suns Preseason News 2018
If Crawford accepts, the Suns have to cut two players. I assume Canaan and maybe Bender. If we do not extend Bender, we need to cut him. I have no problem if the coaching staff sees something in him and wants to keep him. But if they want to do that, they need to extend him. I do not want a repeat of a lame duck player like last year. With Len, we at least needed minutes from a center. With Bender, we do not need him to play minutes.Superbone wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:05 pmPhoenix Suns offer guard Jamal Crawford the veterans minimum

Crawford 17-18 highlights. I could see him getting us a couple wins over the course of a season.

Re: Suns Preseason News 2018
Wasn't Crawford the worst defensive player in the league last season?
