Canaan, Ariza, Chandler, Anderson, Warren are not young guys. They are all playing significant roles right now and we are getting our asses kicked. I don’t buy youth as a reason for the blowouts. We just suck.
Exactly. If you look at or top 8 guys in terms of minutes played this season, the weighted average age is 26.2 years old. Even with Booker and Ayton playing so many minutes. Youth is only a very small part of our problem. Effort is a much bigger issue.

If you want to say that isn't the reason, you have to point to skill of the players.

I know I harp on this, but we only have one rotation player that is a net positive for the team, and it isn't Booker. Ayton is the only guy that gives up less points than he scores per 100 possessions (of guys that has played a total of 60 minutes this season).

Code: Select all

Player ORtg DRtg Net
Ayton 137 114 23
TJ 117 117 0
Book 111 119 -8
Ariza 106 120 -14
Anderson 103 123 -20
Canaan 91 119 -28
Jackson 76 119 -43

We need a better back up center. We need a better starting pg. We need a better starting pf.

Ariza has been very bad so far.

Len wouldn't be the mentor that Chandler is but I bet he would have filled that backup center role better.

I have hope that Ariza can turn it around. I've no such confidence in Anderson and Chandler--they're cooked.

I would like the team to go after McGee in the off-season as the backup center.

You don't think he is good enough to start on 5-10 teams in the league?

Yeah he is, but I'm just surprised at how little they are paying him($2.4 Mil). I feel like I've been saying that the Suns should target McGee for about 5 years now. If the Suns paid him $5 mil this year, we wouldn't have the problem with backup center.

The Suns shooters are not getting the job done. The two who can actually shoot (Warren & Bridges) are barely getting any playing time.

What the hell is Anderson good for? Isn’t his three-point shooting supposed to be the reason he’s starting? If this keeps up, he needs to be moved to the bench. The end of the bench. The end of somebody else’s bench, if possible.

Ayton has that his offense outweighs his defense enough thing going for him on the analytic side. We know he doesnt defend well yet, his rotations are lazy, he doesnt box out etc.. But offensively he's been super efficient in pretty much all areas.

I think it's the offense itself. Everything feels cramped, which lets defenders stay close to their guy and either deny the shot or run them off the line. We need to spread and space with some PnRs and get guys in better catch and shoot situations.

Hard to do without an NBA PG.

I was kind of hoping Booker/Jackson/Crawford could take on that role for certain stretches. I just don't think we have the players to be running and curling off screens for shots or dribble penetration.

For small stretches sure, they can be patchwork PG/initiators, but if this team is going to go anywhere, obviously we need a PG. Igor was pretty adamant in the offseason about Booker not being a PG and yet here we are, having him run the offense much more than he should. I think we'll take a big step forward once we address the PG situation.

If not, well we can always just blow it up again.

Just waive Canaan already and burn a first rounder for Beverley. This can’t go on. He can’t pass the ball into the post without a turnover.
Beware, Beverly is not looking good, to put it kindly.
Tyus Jones for a protected future first. Make it happen.
Advanced stats love him, but I see a lot of limitations and I am scared to pay starter price for backup material.

Chandler should have been traded or waived/stretched. Makes no sense on the court. He can't barely move and has not defended with his arms up once in his Suns tenure.

He would have been fine as a third center, expiring contract asset for the trade deadline, etc.

It would help if Ayton could move up from 30 mpg to 38 MPG, and Chandler only played 10 or fewer MPG.

But we desperately need a PG. They are going to have to just overpay to get one at this point.

The second half of the second quarter was terrible. With 8 mins left we were five down after a Ryan Anderson three. They called a timeout, put Lonzo in and they started to make things happen. When a guard starts to torch us, we need to play Bridges on him.
