At this point I think Ayton needs to at least be able to move himself from the high post to the low post before I’d run the offense through him. Our perimeter players haven’t shown the ability to feed him very well in the post.

i think one on one, ayton will score most of the time. and if they double, hes good enough of a passer to make them pay.
Not from what I've seen. Unless he's right at the basket, he doesn't make a move and passes back out.

I don't know why we are pointing fingers at Ayton so much. He isn't dominating games, but I don't know if that's ever going to be his style. And I don't think force-feeding him the ball 30 times a game will fix our woes. For one, we don't have anybody on the team other than maybe Josh Jackson who can throw an entry pass. So when they try to throw Ayton the ball, it's just stolen and we get a turnover. Secondly, even if he catches the ball, Ayton isn't really a bull-in-a-china-shop center who will go at his man and score every time. If you want to just give a guy the ball and clear out for him to find a way to score, we should be passing it to TJ Warren and Devin Booker instead. I think it's fine for Ayton to be an opportunistic scorer who is efficient and plays within himself. If you wanted Shaq, you drafted the wrong guy.

I think we're mainly talking about with Warren and Booker out, and needing someone to provide offense.

Teams know Warren and Booker are out. They expect us to throw the ball into Ayton in the post. As In2ition said they turned the ball over trying force feed Ayton early. They have to be careful with that.

Sounds like Clint Capela without the defense.

16 and 10 from a rookie big man who's still learning and improving? I'll take it.

I was team Ayton but the way he is getting his 16-10 is clearly not enough. The problem is how are the Suns going to try to develop him given the total mess they have created at all levels. Who is going to get through his mental lapses and lack of agression? Igor? I doubt it. I am afraid this bunch is proving to need an experienced sargeant, not a 'player's coach'. But it always comes down to the same issue. The roster is just terrible and no coach is going to do anything with these players. When you look at the roster, all you see is three real NBA players, a couple of prospects and nothing else. The 2018 NBA eats that for breakfast, other than ATL and maybe CHI, CLE and NYK.

Ouch. This thread was a tough read. So many things... but I will say that I love listening to EJ. He doesn't white-wash everything.

I think Ayton has looked great during the win streak. Early foul trouble is still an issue, but he has done well in 4th quarters lately which means his conditioning has improved. He's putting up better points per possession than any rookie in history except for Anthony Davis. Which... that is good company.

And there is still time for him to improve on those numbers. Unfortunately, the Suns still don't have a decent to average starting pg. If he did, the pg would put him into great positions to score more with ease. Don't get me wrong, I do like Melton and the defense that he brings, but he's still learning the position.

If he had a real point guard, he would likely surpass Doncic as the top rookie scorer by the end of the season, and could have a 20/10 rookie year.
