Would love to see amare come back for one more year and play "udonis haslem" role on this team.
I am just fine to not have Amare on this team. To be honest, I'd much rather give it to someone like Bender or Spalding.
Agree. I dug Amare and was on hand for his epic 50-point game against Portland.
But he's toast, and would never be the in-the-trenches guy that Haslem was.
Time to move on ...

Frank Kaminsky was left in the dust by the Hornets, but he is not a finished product

I was hoping Devin Booker would appear at the end under 2019. But it looks like he has 5820 career points, not enough to make that chart. Maybe in a few years.

Probably won’t take a few years. He needs 2214 points. That’s 82 games at 27 points a game. Doing it one season is a unlikely, but conceivable. Barring severe injuries, he should get there some time in 2020-21.

I understand being pessimistic or cautious when looking ahead to next season. And some teams have made huge improvements, like the Lakers and Clippers, so it's arguable that we will have trouble rising in the standings in the West.

...

I like this roster a lot. I could totally see them being a huge shock to the league next season and blowing away everybody's expectations. Yes, I could see this as a playoff team. More likely not, but still, I do not at all think that is crazy talk to hope for it or think that we have an outside shot at it.
Mori--I totally get the optimism. And our roster is much better constructed than last year. But to make the playoffs in the west, it will likely take 48-50 wins like last year. That means we not only have to win the same games we won last year, but also find another THIRTY games to win. I just don't see us being able to do that. It won't be the 2019-20 Suns playing the 2018-19 Suns. I just don't see enough teams in the league worse than us (especially in the West).
Nobody expected the Clippers to win 48 games last season.
Right. Their pre-season over/under was 37 wins. They out-performed more than any team that didn't have the MVP on their team. I hope we can do the same, but even if we finish +11 above our O/U, it won't be 48-50 wins. I will be surprised if the O/U is above 30 for us.

I'd bet the over, but it is clearly my heart and not my mind based on the last decade of work.

I hope that I'm not thinking with more of my heart than my head, since I'm clearly in the bet the over this year.

I'm hoping, HOPING, we can be one of those under-the-radar, surprised teams early in the year that can get off to a good start. Won't mean playoffs, but if we can really click in training camp and catch some early Ws, it'll go a long way in terms of confidence and looking like we're a team on the rise. And we'll have some cushion for the inevitable come-down/losing streak.
I think this team could have a similar year to what we saw with the team Hornacek coached in his first year.

When we acquired Richaun half of .net was wondering if he's any good and I was quite confident that most would like him when he got on the court. I watched a bunch of The Process couple seasons ago when Embiid was still on minutes restrictions and Dario was really my favourite player to watch. Glad someone did a passing vid on him, yes he is coming off a down year but I find it hard to believe that his skill sets will not be a big plus for the team and especially Ayton.

The stats would say only 2asts per game but clearly doesn't indicate how he reads the game. Just my 2cents

I really want to see if Rubio can run 7Sol. They have young guys, a lights out shooter, a post presence, and a passing facilitator. Lets see if these horses can run....

Good to see you, P219.

I don't think they'll quite run an SSOL offense; they probably won't be quite so fast to get down the floor and get a shot up. That doesn't seem like Monty Williams's style, nor Rubio's. But I do think they'll have a much more fluid offense with more passing, and that they'll run the fast break more often with Rubio as the lead ballhandler. It will be fun to watch. I do agree with you that a more SSOL-like offense would be fun to watch with such a young and athletic squad.

Funny thing is we almost definitely will play faster than those 2004-2005 suns and shoot more 3’s. Hard to imagine any team ever being as fast as we were compared to the rest of the league back then.
