Game Day: Suns (18-26) @ Spurs (20-23), Fri 1/24/20

Post by Superbone »

Time: 6:30 pm AZ (5:30 pm PT/8:30 pm ET)
Place: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX
TV: FSAZ/NBALP

Two teams going in opposite directions at the moment. Can the Suns get back on track? It will be tough as 6 of our next 7 are on the road.

Go Suns!!!

To the Suns credit, they have bizarrely played much better on the road then at home this season. Maybe this gets them back on track, but without the rotation guys coming back and a possible starting lineup change, I don't see much changing.

We had a nice almost-comeback against them the last time. But the Spurs felt like the better and more well prepared team. Not sure it'll be any easier to beat them in their own house, especially when we seem to be in another slump.

A few more losses like this and you'd have to start to think about changes, either via trade, lineups, or something.

The problem is that our bench is very thin right now due to injuries. No Kaminsky, Baynes, or Cam is really hurting us.

Jones should have been thinking about changes all along. This was never a finished product. I don't think our recent play warrants any special reaction. Jones just has to keep building.

I don't know that we need a starting lineup change. If the issue is bench scoring, sub Oubre out first and bring him back in with the bench crew.

We should also tighten up the rotation to 8.5 players while we're dealing with injuries. Ricky-Devin-Kelly-Dario-Deandre-Mikal-Elie-Chieck-.5 Tyler. These lineups with Jevon or Ty as the nominal small forward are a joke.

It's depressing to me how much we have regressed in terms of 3-point shooting. We started out the year shooting really well from 3, or at least it seemed so. And now for the past month or two we are just horrid from long distance. I thought that we had lots of capable 3-point shooters: Booker, Bridges, Cam, Baynes, Saric, and some others like Oubre who could hit them situationally. But most of those guys have not been able to hit them consistently lately.

^ Worth noting that the best lineup there also includes Rubio and Oubre. If you swap out Saric, the numbers drop a lot. Then if you swap out Rubio for Okobo it again gets interesting. Kind of weird data. Thanks for posting it.

If we're going to make a starting lineup change, maybe we should go with our best lineup (RR/DB/MB/KO/DA) and then have Dario be the backup center. I don't think we've explored Dario at the 5 enough.

I think we'd concede every rebound that didn't roll right into a Suns players hands with Dario at the 5.

Been like 7 years since we won in San Antonio. I don’t see this group changing that.

Rough whistle against the Suns in the first quarter. The blocking foul on Oubre and offensive foul on Ayton, in particular.

Monty has been in the officials ear ever since the bad call on Oubre against DeRozan. It's not really changed anything in the Suns favor.

Jerome can't be on the floor if he's not even going to look at the hoop when no one is within 5 feet of him.

Our 3-point shooting is so bad. And the Spurs are great at defending the 3.

Last couple possessions they didn't get bailed out by a call which triggered some fast break points for us so let's see how it goes

The whistle has flipped. The Suns have benefited from a couple of favorable calls and non-calls in the last 5-6 minutes.

I'm really glad they're not calling anything when Aldridge tries to back down Saric in the post. Usually that kind of play is difficult for the official to hold their whistle.
