Game Day: Suns (19-26) @ Grizzlies (21-24), Sun 1/26/20

It was absolutely a defensive foul, at best a non-call. But that's how it's been all year. I think Kelly was scared of getting trapped in the corner, Bridges seemingly looked off an open Book at the top of the key and put Oubre in a tough position. There was also a non-call on an Oubre drive late in the game that they reviewed and called Memphis' ball after it went out of bounds.

I don't have a lot to say about this game. We struggle against quicker more athletic teams. I never really felt that we had a chance.
It was good to see Ty Jerome hit a couple of jumpers. If he can get comfortable shooting, it will take a ton of pressure off of the rest of his game.

^ Agreed that the rare Ty Jerome sighting was one of the most positive aspects of this otherwise toilet-flush of a game.

It was a very frustrating game but then they came storming back. Shows that they can play defense when they want to but we need them to want to more often!

Also liked Jerome's minutes. These games are good for the young guys like Carter, Okobo and Jerome. Gets them some valuable experience and we also get to see what we have with them going forward.

It wasn't a foul by either person. And Kelly did not go straight up at all.

I know it’s frustrating to witness, but no wonder why they call it “growing pains”. This team is not ready for the big stage including both of our main building blocks (hard to call them “Stars” if they can’t will you to victory on nights like this, hopefully they get there) and perhaps it’s for the best that they keep that hungry instead of scratching it off the list. Management wasn’t calling for playoff this year, and we all should remember it.
That 7-4 start got everybody pumped up and asking for the sky, but we are still a very pedestrian team, I’m almost happy that we lost both tiebreakers this week, as this hopefully prevent us for selling the future in a desperate attempt to keep an unlikely playoffs push alive. Instead of overpaying for Kevin Love or any other player, I hope we look for deals that make sense for the future. Porter Jr from Denver, not easy to get, maybe untouchable for Denver, but he would make much more sense than Kevin Love. The same for KAT, it would be a great addition, BUT, only at the right price, we can not keep overpaying on every transaction, hopefully Jones only did it in order to flush out the quickest posible, some things he truly believed would harm the future. I want us to use TJ’s expiring but only on a savvy move.
And if the Grizzlies made that jump with the flatter odds right to the 2nd pick, perhaps we can do the same and end up with a Top4 selection...

I thought Oubre went up and got his arms hit, then leaned in on his way down to try and sell it.

I knew it.

Well there it is. I don't really agree with the call, but definitely would've taken it.

same here. I know plenty of guys get that call, but to decide a game I think it is bullshit call.

Basketball has become to much like soccer where everybody falls down and starts flopping around like a fish in order to "sell a foul".
It happens on offense and defense, and it's tiresome.

agreed. It is awful to watch. I wish we had better disincentives against flopping. I agree with some of the guys proposing removal of the charge foul if the guy is not making a play on the ball in the lane.

Or call a flop on offense what it is. They have flopping rules in place already, expand them to cover the offense.

I don't understand how you don't agree with it? Oubre clearly went straight up in his own space and Anderson came into the space and crowded him, then while he was up in the air came underneath him. I'm not quite understanding how this wasn't insanely obvious?Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 9:28 pmWell there it is. I don't really agree with the call, but definitely would've taken it.

The ref had his mind made up not to call a foul because it was a rushed shot and he didn't want to reward the shooter who he probably thought was looking for the foul. So instead of making the call that was there, he called what he wanted. If that were LeBron, Harden, Giannis, etc., they get 3 shots.
Re: Game Day: Suns (19-26) @ Grizzlies (21-24), Sun 1/26/20
I hate charge calls where the player pulls the "run up and stop" bit. Run into a given position, slam on the brakes, hope the offensive player plows into you. It's just asking for an injury. And I agree with you guys that flopping on both ends is a problem. I hate the shooters who kick out their legs and arms and flail about after they release their shot, hoping for a foul call. I wish the refs would punish such things with technical fouls more often. They don't seem to want to crack down on it. If I were a ref I'd find it annoying that players are going out of their way to try to deceive me into making a spurious foul call.
