Post by Superbone »

Time: 7:00 pm AZ (6:00 pm PT/9:00 pm ET)
Place: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Phoenix, AZ
TV: FSAZ, NBALP

Another easy one for our limited roster. Yay! The Rockets are on a tear and just beat the Lakers. Half our team is on the IR. Good times.

Go Suns!!!

So we're prepared for PJ Tucker outplaying Ayton right?

We don't want to "disrupt the continuity" here, so I predict the suns will continue to lose. All star break can't get here soon enough.

I really don't believe in the Rockets' current strategy of playing all guards and swings. They may be able to beat us with it, but that won't win them a title. Capela may or may not have been the answer for them at center, but playing PJ Tucker at the 5 is a recipe for their "centers" to be worn down and tired by the playoffs. Classic D'Antoni roster mismanagement.

I don't expect the Suns to win tonight, but it should be interesting to watch. I also do think that eventually the teams with size will figure out how to attack their small ball lineup, and I hope that Ayton, who did a lot of work learning how to attack a smaller player, will take advantage of their tactics and have a big game.

This is also a game where we watch our snubbed and worn down would be All-Star go against the guy who most likely he was snubbed for. Can he keep him off the boards and show everyone that he should have been the pick? I'm also doubtful, based on his play the last couple of games. Just seems pretty tired, and probably(I'm totally speculating) emotionally tired from losing, snubbed, Kobe's death, and lastly his best friends getting to play together without him.

I predict misery and a lot of trade scenarios after the game.

I’ll be sure to check the Rockets forums to see if you’re right. ;)

Maybe Tucker will teach Ayton how to box out.

I really dislike this Rockets team now that they have both Harden AND Westbrook. I would love to see us beat them tonight. But of course Westbrook always scores 40 against us.

I think Westbrook is out for this one.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

I can't understand the Rockets wanting to discard Capela for no reason. Utter insanity.

According to this, the Rockets offense was much better with him off the floor, and the defense was only marginally better.

Like they said on TNT last night. Play man to man. Let Harden and Westbrook go off for 40 each but don’t leave the corners. Suns offense have a chance. It may take Ayton out of the middle on D. But let’s face it, Russ and Harden are better going to the cup and line than Ayton can change their shots. Ayton can stay in front of Covington. Bridges and Oubre on the back court. You can probably hide Book on PJ on the corner.

I would actually love for Ayton to play against Tucker every day in practice.

Well they are 5-0 using that strategy and just beat the #1 team in the west, on their own court, who also happens to be the team best equipped to take advantage of this new strategy. You may not believe in it, but it’s working.

A classic sign of a D'Antoni team is initial success followed by injuries, worn-out overplayed undersized players, and failure. I loved 7SOL so much and miss it dearly, but each player on our roster aged 2 years per season they were on our team.

This game really is an avatar for analytics vs old school ball.

I really hope Ayton imposes his will on the game. He’s going to have his hands full on D as the Rockets will look to have him out on the perimeter so they can attack the paint.

Who besides Amare seemed to age quickly? Even Amare just missed the 1 year. He lost a little athleticism, but he was still an all-nba guy after the injury year.

It’s easy to say the 7SOL era was a failure because we never won, but I think our lack of a championship is more flukey than it is an indictment of D’Antoni.
