Haha, well we didn’t have a chance to draft him anyways...at least it wasn’t a tweet of Fox saying he wanted to play here, right?

Such a weird draft...most people had Fultz/Ball/Jackson as a top 3 going into the draft. Tatum did sneak in above Jackson, but those 3 would probably be all outside the top 10 now.

Here’s the full convo... while it might be tough to listen to in hindsight, it does show that players want to be in Phoenix

Maybe it's just me, but as this young team starts to win more, with Monty and James running things, the new practice facility and even the updated arena, it should be even more of a destination. Just trying to be positive

No, I think you're right. It's time for things to start getting better and this season was a start in the right direction.

I really wonder how many bad front office decisions trace back to Sarver. It’s worth noting when evaluating McD’s tenure.

We know he also shot down the #16 and the MIL pick for SGA in favor of the Mikal trade. I’m almost certain he was the loudest voice in the room on Ayton over Doncic.

He’s really the worst thing that ever happened to this franchise.

This could be true, but there was also word that Sarver was a Doncic guy before the draft and we know that McDonough was all giddy and couldn't contain how he felt after they did the Ayton workout. So...idk.

I love hearing things like this. Earl knows he’s almost definitely not getting another coaching job anytime soon, so he doesn’t care what he says. Of course he’s gonna try and make himself sound better in the process by wanting Tatum. I do remember there being a report that our front office was split. McD wanted Jackson, Watson wanted Isaac, and Sarver wanted Fox. Maybe there was some truth to that and Watson wanted Tatum before he was all but going to Boston.

Ya, McD was Ayton 100%. And it seems like Sarver went with Jones over McD on getting Bridges.

I'm a little confused by that exchange. Were the Celtics interested in Jackson? I wonder what the chances of them picking him would have been had he worked out for them? If the Celtics didn't take Tatum, is there a chance they wouldn't have taken Jackson and we would have taken Jackson anyway even if Tatum was available?

And DO we know that Sarver is responsible for Bridges over SGA? I've heard the rumor but have never seen it substantiated with facts. If Sarver did overrule McD on all this then yeah, we can't really blame him other than him not being strong enough to stand up to Sarver if that was even a possibility.

Yes. That was reported as fact by The Athletic.

The caveat is that there are definitely sour grapes with Watson.

However, Sarver has been at best meddling, at worst calling the shots on our draft days since he bought the team. There is no doubt he plays a big role. He obviously has the right to have a say in who he brings in to the organization he owns, but he clearly has no aptitude for the basketball scouting part of it.
