Of course, NOW he'll get it.
I’m not sure he’s there yet. He always showed flashes with us. We’re just not watching to see all the bad stuff he’s doing. His shooting percentages still aren’t great. He’s at 42/30/68. He was like 41/32/66 with us last year. He’s traded in his long 2’s for 3’s and even at that low percentage, it’s bumped his TS% up because he was so poor on 2’s. The off court stuff is always going to be the big thing with him.
Call me when he can shoot, or make a free throw, or make good decisions with the basketball, or is close to being a net positive on the court.

RPM of +1.13, so I guess he is close to being a net positive.

Are the Lakers going to play games without Lebron because he refuses to play without fans?

And now it’s a moot point.

What's the verdict on all that stuff? ESPN tried to out U of A as crooked and paying players and all of that, but then they retracted all of it, didn't they?

He isn't a good coach, so they aren't attracting players based on that.

I swear he's the most overrated coach in history.

he had one good season and made the most out of it. They spent way too much time trying to ride the Lute train without figuring out how to keep the engine going. Once a train like that stops, you can't just start it right back up again. You have to plan for that.

For sure, they did not handle Lute's last years with the team well. Even the assistant that was supposed to be the heir apparent, Josh Pastner, left to coach Memphis. I think he's with Georgia Tech dealing with some weird stuff over there (I think GT had some NCAA violations, but also he might have been the victim of an extortion scheme? I don't know, it's an odd story.)

The thing that bugs me most about Miller is that I swear he thinks people pay to see him coach. The constant yelling at officials, getting in kids' faces... ugh, I don't know why he has as much success as he does recruiting because I don't think I'd like to play for him.

You'd go where the money is. And if his antics get his boss and his boss's boss to think he is coaching, then he is golden.

Please tell this to my UA alum friends. A couple of years back during the "scandal", I told them that the program would be better off if they fired him. Most of them were very quick to disagree and defend him as an elite coach. My retort was (and still is) to tell me about their favorite UA Final Four appearance under Miller. That shut some of them up pretty quick. Still didn't change their minds, though.

To be fair, I think most of the college coaches are overrated mostly due to the nature of NCAA athletics. Head coaches are the faces of programs because the players have limited eligibility. They're also paid more than the school president and are often the highest paid state official if it's not already the head football coach. It's a joke, and honestly makes me feel guilty for investing time and money into the NCAA. I only justify it because I paid tuition and earned a degree from the University of Oregon. On the other hand, I have a masters degree from Pacific University and I couldn't care less about their athletics program. I couldn't even tell you which level they play at, maybe Division III?

TL;DR: I'm a hypocrite.

I feel like almost all college coaches suck at actual coaching. Recruiting is what gets them paid.

When the best players stay in school for no more than 3 months, what good is coaching anyway? It's just a recruiting game. If you can get the best raw talent to show up, you win. In-game coaching helps a little, but really it's about keeping the pipeline running.

For sure...the result of making players spend 1 year in college before the nba. Think doing away with that will make college better. You’d still get a few surprise 1 and done guys, but you’d decrease the recruiting craze and most guys that choose college would stick it out at least 2 years.

I don’t love the idea of having high schoolers in the nba, but it’s not terrible. Would be really nice if we could develop a more effective minor league.
