I have no problem with small ball, but do it with personnel that makes sense. Like when we ran Kidd-KJ-Chapman. That lineup had speed, and Kidd's rebounding/defense to make it a plus lineup. And later, playing Marion at the 4.

We try small ball with lineups that can't shoot, don't rebound, lack athleticism, and lack speed/skill. Ugh.

Entire 4th quarter is garbage time. At least we get to see Cam Johnson make some shots. Otherwise this is just filler.

Ty Jerome has been pretty hard to watch in these two exhibition games. Diallo also didn't impress me today.

We're pretty much where we've been all season - the starting lineup s competitive and can keep us in the game against almost anybody. The bench is awful though.

Totally healthy I'm comfortable with the starting lineup and Baynes, Johnson and Oubre/Bridges, but the backup guards really need an upgrade.

So the shopping list for the summer - replacements for Baynes and Saric if they let them go and backcourt depth who can actually come in and make a contribution every night and play significant minutes.

I wouldn't have any problems with them moving their first round pick for someone who fills one of those holes rather than drafting another young project.

Cs are knocking down a bunch of 3s, 2nd unit is still shaky. Jerome got the hook early for Carter. Payne looks good again, plays with a good pace, pushes the ball up, nice size going down the lane. Frank the Tank is back and looks pretty good. He looks a bit bigger and stronger.
Our bench did us in today. Also our 3 point defense wasn't good. Plus, Celtics seemed to hit every 3.

Jerome just isn't an NBA-quality player at this point.
He isn’t an NBA-quality player at the other positions either.
Maybe even less so.

Only way I see Jerome sticking is if he becomes an elite shooter and crafty scorer.

Overall, today felt like a hangover game. We came out balls to the wall in the first scrimmage, came out flat today. Shots weren't falling, defense wasn't really there, Ayton not as engaged. Bridges has looked like our best player even with Book doing his thing on offense.

I am willing to say that Bridges new play on offense is here to stay. So much of sports is just confidence and he clearly is playing without hesitation
That all subs lineup mentioned in the tweet , I'm just glad that 5 would not actually really be on the floor together much if at all.

Small Ball for life! Just imagine this fantasy suns squad:Negele Knight, Frank Johnson, Marcus Banks, Tim Kempton, Ed Neely. It would totally work.

Negele Knight was such a puzzler. Every now and then he would be brilliant, leaving you to wonder where that play was the rest of the time.

I only caught the 4rth quarter, so I mostly saw the dream lineup. Probably not worth even having any response beyond that a lineup with 3-4 guys who are not NBA players was not successful. But still.

Watching that lineup made me mad at Tyler Johnson, who should have been waaaay ahead of all those guys on the depth chart.

Ty Jerome might have touched the ball 2x in the fourth quarter. He's the best ball handler, the best passer, and probably has the highest bball IQ on the court. He didn't use those qualities. It looked to me like he doesn't think he's an NBA player, either.

Cam Johnson was the best player on the court, and we should have run most plays through him. Instead, it seemed like 75% of the plays were Payne or Carter in a pick and roll with Diallo. Most of those ended in turnovers.

Payne definitely has the athleticism and aggressiveness to be an impact player. He hasn't had great results, but it's hard to judge with the guys he shares the court with. I'll be looking at how well he does as he learns the system better. I'd be tempted to start him in the next scrimmage.

Kaminsky is as ready to play as ever. He'll be back to his old self when the action starts, hitting corner 3's and hooks from 5 feet away, and getting knocked around in the lane by pretty much anyone else.

Play of the game? Mikal staying with and blocking Tatum is another level IMO. Leads to the fastbreak.

Also, I've been down on Dario but this is an important play because he's that "connector", making the right play. He doesn't force the pass into Ayton, drives and draws defenders for the kickout, then stays in the play moving back to the corner, again drives and kicks to Bridges who goes baseline for the score. Not flashy, but effective.

Thanks for the video's, ShelC.

That's the Dario I want to see. I think we would all have a different opinion of him if he just passed the ball more when he draws defenders under the basket instead of trying to go up against guys who jump.
