The Bucks are boycotting game 5 because of the shooting of Jacob Blake
Wow.

I’m not sure what difference it will make, but that is a statement.

Will they forfeit game 5? Or is it just postponed?

If it’s just postponed, I don’t see how it makes any impact or puts any pressure on Milwaukee’s owner to use his position to influence change.
The Bucks should forfeit the game. Plain and simple.
It's a moot point when the whole league boycotts games.

The Bucks boycotted. The rest were postponed. Big difference.

So you believe the other teams wouldn't have boycotted?

The Brewers also boycotted their game, but there are other MLB games going in right now. I don’t know if the other teams would have or not.

You may not know, but I'm confident that at least the remaining four teams scheduled to play today would have also boycotted. It's pretty obvious if you've been listening to the things many NBA players have been saying.

Also, the NBA and MLB are so vastly different in numerous ways that they can't be counter-referenced in this situation.

I’ve been thinking about how they might handle this. I don’t think it makes sense to just cancel the rest of the playoffs. That’s not going to accomplish anything. By playing, they can continue to make statements before and after games. But a lot of talk isn’t going to make any real changes either. I’m thinking tomorrow’s games will also be cancelled so that all teams have stood in unity. But then maybe finish the playoffs and donate a largish portion of their salaries to organizations and causes that can help make changes in this country. Maybe not even just financially but also get involved to enacting change in this country.

For all of us, silence is complicity.

Well, apparently the Clippers and Lakers have voted to boycott the rest of the season. So it looks like my guess may be wrong.

I don’t understand how boycotting the NBA playoffs is supposed to help. Aren’t boycotts supposed to target offenders? How does this persuade anybody who isn’t already an ally?

I think they are trying to get the owners/league to commit to doing something. They have the most to gain/lose by playing, not the players.

Maybe commit to using every NBA arena for polling stations on November 3rd. Maybe by committing a percent of the league profits towards lobbying racial injustice issues. I am sure LeBron and Chris Paul have some good ideas there.

Here’s an idea: NBA players as poll workers in Democratic precincts. What a great way to encourage people to get out and vote!

No autographs, please.

Part of it may be the frustration of not being home with their families and in their communities while this is taking place.

In the bubble they're isolated and can do nothing except talk. I think a lot of the players want to have more involvement than that.
