Top 4 All-Time Favorite Suns Players

Post by Superbone »

The Arizona Republic is doing a series of articles and twitter polls. They don't have to be the best but who are your personal favorites. Let's see your top four. I'll start:

1. Steve Nash
2. Devin Booker
3. Charles Barkley
4. Paul Westphal

Honorable mentions (in no particular order):

Grant Hill
Amare Stoudemire
Ronnie Lee
Dan Majerle
Walter Davis
Dick Van Arsdale

4. Would have put Kevin Johnson, but I’ll replace with Amare

Nash, Marion (no explanation needed)
Chapman (the shot)
Bell (the clothesline)

Too early to put Mikal there, but he's my present favorite player

Honorable mention:
Booker (there was only 4 spots, and those teams he played for were a pain to watch, if he stays and suns are decent, will be top 1-3)
Dragic (always liked him, not his fault management treated him so bad)
Grant Hill (didn't spend the best part of his carreer here but man was as classy as can be)
Barkley (suns great, but didn't spent so much time here and didn't like the way he exited)
Marbury (not the old school distributor we usually had at the time, but the guy was a baller and this alone makes him an unforgettable sun :
Stoudemire (didn't make the top 4 because he didn't retire as a sun)
Zarko (I know, but before his injury he had a few good games and I really liked him)

Kidd, even after the way he left our team? Booker not even in your top 18?!

Book's an oversight. I think I had him top 4 but swapped him with someone. He's getting near the top with a few more years and some playoff runs. I have a soft spot for Finley.

Kidd was my favorite growing up and willed our teams to 50 wins when he was here. We just couldn't get him that dominant big to play next to. Not happy about the way he left but loved what he did on the court.

How does that disqualify Amare but Marion? It’s your list so I’m not arguing with you lol just confused

Dude! Nobody is going to have a beef with that. You can’t have your username and NOT have Book #1 even if he has to share it.

That's a good point ;)
I don't even know if Marion had a ceremony or a public speech somewhere else. And we send him packing.
Amar'e choose to leave for NY, and choose to sign a 1-day contract to retire as a Knick.
That's why I'm a bit hesitant to put him in the top 4, but I can for sure understand why you would.

Amar’e “chose” to leave for NY because they offered him a huge contract that we weren’t willing to match because of injury fears.

Then of course he did get injured, and the Knicks didn’t really get their full money’s worth out of the contract, but they were still very supportive to him.

I begrudge no one in this matter. Going to NY was the right thing for Amar’e, and his positive feelings toward that franchise are understandable.

1. Steve Nash (by a mile)
2. Raja Bell
3. Grant Hill
4. Shawn Marion
5. Amare Stoudemire (I know I only get 4, but still)

I really enjoyed whoever Nash's gritty veteran swingman teammate was in the 2000s; Raja and Grant Hill were awesome. Worked their asses off and great defenders. I almost would list guys like Jared Dudley up high for similar reasons. I just loved Nash's effect on supporting players like these.

I know that (and sorry for my grammar, i'm tired and english is not my mother tongue).
I've no ill feellings towards him, he did what was good for him, and I think it was the best thing for the suns too.
And while here, he gave his best.
I don't know if neutral fan consider him more as a sun or as a knick.
But for me, that put him outside of my top 4 (but still honorable mention, definitely top 10)
