phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Yeah saw that. This is fun, thanks for setting this up.
Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
I feel the same way about the Hawks. In fact I plan on becoming a fairweather fan for that team. Now I'm rooting for two teams that passed on Doncic!
Btw, does anybody know the Hawks equivalent to phx-suns.net?

Does Gardino lose his Portland pick to whoever had Houston?

Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
That makes sense, but nobody had Houston. This is their only pick in the draft.

Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
With the 18th pick, the Dallas Mavericks take:
Jalen Smith
A rebounding big who can shoot, Smith has a chance to see lots of minutes playing alongside Doncic and company.
I thought about Precious here, but ultimately I think Smith will be a better fit for them.

Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Wait that's the 18th pick correct? I'm next at 19 with BK?
Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
OH!
I made those posts before I woke up. You are next with 19, but I gotta revise.
I'll still give Houston RJ. And I'll give Dallas Jalen Smith. So go on with your pick.

Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Ok so you took RJ Hampton at 16 with the Rockets pick that was traded from Portland then Wally took Bane at 17, you took Jalen at 18 for the Mavs?
Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Brooklyn 19 pick
Needs: Bench depth, frontcourt depth. On paper, the Nets seem pretty stacked with Kyrie, Dinwiddie, Levert, KD, DAJ and Jarret Allen. Though now it's look like things could change if they land James Harden. They also have Joe Harris whom they'll need to re-sign as an RFA (think I read the Hawks may make a run), Taurean Prince (who they don't like), and Kurucs. I think they're looking for someone to contribute right away who complements Kyrie and KD and maybe add some depth at the 3/4/5.
Media/Fan Consensus - RJ Hampton, Jalen Smith, Tyrell Terry, Saddiq Bey, Desmond Bane
ShelC's pick - Josh Green. They've been linked to Green and will need the depth at the 2/3 spot if they lose Harris and move on from Taurean Prince. Solid 2 way swing who can also be a future piece if they move Dinwiddie or Levert. NBADraft.net also compares him to Kelly Oubre, so he's got that going for him

Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Good I didn't really want Bey anyway!
Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Sorry, I just woke up and got into the office, time zone thing. I assume Josh Green is also off the board at 19.
RW, I would do that trade absolutely, but I understand that there are no trades in this mock, so let me take a look at the remaining prospects on the list and come up with something quickly so as to not hold this up any further.

Re: phx-suns.net Mock Draft
Damn this is harder than I thought. I guess it's easier to sit on the sidelines and criticize than to actually make the decisions.
Miami Heat
Team Needs:
With an inspirational run to to the 2020 finals, the Heat have a lot of options in this draft. The team is built around the two-way play of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, and nabbed Tyler Herro in the 2019 draft. With other recent undrafted free-agent finds in Kendrick Nunn and Duncan Robinson, and clean cap sheets for 2021, the Heat are ready to make noise in the East for years to come. Positionally speaking, with Meyers Leonard expiring and Kelly Olynyk on the last year of his contract (player option that I assume he will pick up), the Heat could use a four. With Dragic also expiring and Nunn putting up a dud in the bubble, the Heat could also use a lead guard. However, given the team's ability to maximize the talent it acquires thanks to that famous Heat culture, and the friendly South Beach weather and state income tax that lures in potential free agents, and the versatility of its current stars, the team can simply draft best player available at this spot.
Top candidates:
Tyrell Terry, Stanford, PG/SG, Freshman
Cole Anthony, UNC, PG, Freshman
Aleksej Pokuševski, Olympiacos B
I like all three prospects, but between the two point guards, I'm drawn to the recent chatter that Terry has worked hard during his down time to put on 10 lbs of muscle. Sounds like a Heat type of guy. Whereas if Pokusevski, a 7 foot shooting guard weighing 200 lbs, can take advantage of the vaunted Heat training regimen, he could become one of the steals of this draft.
Decision:
This is where it's really difficult. Enough with the deliberation. I will take Tyrell Terry, because I'm hearing chatter that the 76ers want him, so I get to spite a conference rival, and there are several decent PF options in free agency this year, though the Heat may not spend big to get any of them. It'd be great to have Pokusevski help protect the paint, but he's not going to contribute this year, and I don't want to waste any of Butler's prime, even if next year is the year.
